I wonder if certain posters will refrain from dumb comments like 10 year olds do, as they claim to be very mature individuals.....

I don't mean to keep chiming in on all the Rissmiller comments, but I think you guys are under-estimating him quite a bit. His numbers were not great. Definitely could be better, but he was a top 3 PKer and played the majority of the year on San Jose's third line. This line had a very specific roll of being a defensive unit. I believe I heard at least two or three times on NBC and Versus that the line of Rissmiller/Mitchell/Grier was one of the top third lines in the league. I can't comment on Vorros, but I am pretty confident that Rissmiller will play regularly. He is also signed to a 3 year deal, not one year.

bolded are changes
we can only have 20 skaters IIRC.(13+7). so get rid of rissmiller...
dawes should be switched with zherdev and then either one of those lines could be the first, or they could both get equal ice time...i want sjo to get a bigger role(so does everyone else, including renney), so i could see moore getting the nod before vorros, making the 4th line faster and more offensive...prucha could be replaced via trade or korpikoski, although he will be given a shot.
for the most part i like this lineup though

Dawes is a LW, using him on the RW would be a waste. You don't just switch players around like that, playing on different sides actually makes a big difference, as more play actually occurs on one side of the ice than the other, strange as that may seem.

And yes, while Zherdev was originally a LW, he seems to play better on the right side, and our depth at the RW position is the worst, so I don't see the rationale in moving Zherdev over to the left side.

Dawes - Gomez - Zherdev
Drury - Dubinsky - Naslund
Korpikoski - Fritsche - Callahan
Sjostrom - Betts - Voros[Orr]

or

Drury - Gomez - Naslund
Dawes - Dubinsky - Zherdev
Korpikoski - Fritsche - Callahan
Sjostrom - Betts - Voros[Orr]

or

Naslund - Drury - Zherdev
Dawes - Gomez - Callahan
Korpikoski - Dubinsky - Prucha
Sjostrom - Betts - Voros[Orr]

There is no way I could stomach Dawes and Prucha on the same line. That 2nd line would be atrocious imho.
I agree about Dawes and Prucha on the same line, but I'd flip prucha and zherdev instead, only because zherdev and gomez both like to carry the puck

someone already posted this, but I hadn't caught up yet, my bad...but still true

Voros can't carry Orr's jock as a fighter. With that being said he is a better player. Now as far as the team every team in the conferance got tougher and bigger. Mont, Pitt and the Flyers all got a goon or scrapper. islanders always carry a tough guy and Buffalo and Canes have toughness. Orr is needed and will play 55-60 games.

rissmiller

79 games played, 30pim so the guy clearly doesn't take stupid penalties

6th on the sharks in hits, he knows his role

4th forward in blocked shots, blocking shots too ?

was top 4 forward in short handed ice time for los tiburones

he had a sports hernia last year that he played with. Playing hurt too !

he is 6 foot 4 inches and 220 pounds

and he is from belmont mass

he was good enough to be a regular for the sharks, he is clearly good enough to play a regular shift for the rangers

folks who think he will play in hartford or be released just aren't paying attention

This was a fun process to see unfold, but there is one BIG flaw in these lines.

Brendan Shanahan has to fit in there somewhere. 3rd maybe 4th line, but he will be a NY Ranger next season. We should all prepare for this reality imo.

Naslund - Drury - Zherdev
Dawes - Gomez - Prucha
Shanahan - Dubinsky - Callahan
Sjostrom - Betts - Voros[Orr]

Korpeedo gets his shot when Shanny goes down

Plus I think Sather still has some trades out there being mulled over.

Off the table imo: Henke, Staal, Naslund, Gomez, Drury, Zherdev, Betts

Any of: Dawes, Callahan, Prucha, + prospects and picks could be packaged for an upgrade to the 2nd line wing

Completely agree, we have to many players that deserve to be on the nhl roster for a trade not to be made...

Naslund-Gomez-Prucha
Korpi-Drury-Zherdev
Dawes-Dubinsky-Fritsche
Voros-Betts-Sjostrom

leaves (on my lines) Riismiller, Callahan, Orr
granted I'd like to keep Orr for his nunchuk skills,
guys like callahan and riismiller cant rot in the pressbox or be sent to the minors though (imo) and thats without Shanny in the mix..
And while some would argue to take Korpi out, I just cant do it, I cant go into this season without adding atleast 1 guy from our system to the roster, it would be a major disappointment to me if we dont have a spot for one of our own....

I hear ya. And Renny would like to promote from Hartford is at all possible. Its good for the franchise. It makes those guys have hope and play hard to be rewarded.

But Shanahan is going to be signed. And at some point he's going to get tweaked and Korpeedo will get his shot.

Its been 20+ years since the Rangers went to war without a bona fide HOF on the roster.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think our next Captain is #14

Would be perfectly fine with me!

I think Dubi's got captain written all over him down the road though, one day.

Everyone seems to think he's just done, but maybe fresh legs and fewer minutes and we get some good return. Let someone else kill penalties to lighten his workload. He was banged up a bit last yr too if I remember correctly, takes its toll on vets.

He can still score. He'll be on the third line and the PP AND PK. Would be good for Dubi to center Shanahan. He's the future star on Broadway.

Solid lineup with a lot of exciting youth. The Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev tandem scares me.

Probably spot on. good post.

But I still say Drury will be captain regardless of what else happens.

This team is incredibly soft. And Prucha sucks...what a short memory people have...

I don't like this team one bit

Something tells me that Prucha shows up this year. It's a contract year, he doesn't want to leave, and he'll likely be on a top line with a playmaker.

My only beef with this lineup is that Korpikoski isn't on it. The kid deserves top 9 minutes in the NHL, and he's going to make it hard on Renney and co not to give it to him come pre-season and training camp.

I'm also of the belief that Shanny will be back with the team, but only after Slats moves some of the depth that we have on this team. I believe 100% that Callahan and or Prucha will be moved before the season begins.

Also, I think Orr plays every game, he's needed. Our lineup is small, they'll take a beating without someone to answer to game in and game out. Voros can't do it, and I don't want Dubinsky racking up fighting majors, I want him on the ice.
