BTW, do we have a nickname for Zherdev yet?

hmm

from what I have seen , they call him, The Enigma.

I think that is going to have to change.

We have The Nazgul - Naslund.
Gomez the Former Devil
and Little Nicky.

The DEMON LINE.

It's not like Tyutin was an all-star defenseman. THere's pressure on him, no doubt, but not because he was traded for Tyutin

oh god, please tell me i didnt just see that. of all the things we could argue about, and we are going to get into the finer points of Tolkienian mythology?

So in retort the word demon is from the ancient greek word "daimon" which means "spirit". It was generally used as a blanket term for all spirits until Medieval times when christians used the term to refer to evil spirits.

Further more the word nazgul, comes from the fiction Tolkien language known as black speech where naz means Ring and Gul means spirit or wraith.

So in conclusion a Nazgul is a demon.

and yes, i am that freakin bored at work.

i hope the move to a big city when he doesnt speak english wont be to tough for him. it'd be better for him if cherepanov were here this year, it'd help him make the move, knowing theres another russian going through the same thing

lets just hope he doesnt get intimidated
i think valliquette speaks russian, i remember hearing him mic'd up talking to tyutin in russian

I said before that I want Nik to succeed and I really do, but I don't think there is any way to predict how this season will go for him.

Enigma is a good word. I can see him lighting it up, I can see him completely crashing and burning.

He had to be one of the most frustrating players to watch last year (and the year before). He has all the talent in the world, which he would show in flashes. If he meshes well with his linemates, it will be magic on the ice. If he doesn't, you will be extremely frustrated.

For the record - Nik and Jason Chimera did NOT mesh well. Nik's tendency to dangle just before the blue line while Chimera was going full speed ahead was a bad combo. If they did manage to make it over the blue line without Chimera going offsides, Nik would set Chimmer up with some beautiful passes, which Chimera couldn't put in the net (or hit the broad side of a barn).

Hopefully, Nik will mesh (and Chimera will end up back on the 3rd line, where he belongs, this season).

(I hope it doesn't bug you guys, but I'll probably be dropping in to see how Nik and Dan are doing through the season. I was sporting a Fritsche avatar last season.)

your more than welcome thanks for the insight

from what CBJGIRL has wrote about Zherdev and what i have seen of him convinces me even more that he would be better on a line with Drury rather than Gomez.

All these threads have me so eager to see this kid play...I don't care if it's with Gomez or Dru...as long as it works.

Is it Hockey season yet??????

In my season in NHL08, Zherdev finished with 47 goals and 56 assists...

I can see Parise and Zherdev putting up very similar numbers, 35-35.

I'm frightened of the possibility of a Gomez-Zherdev tandem, nevermind the possibility that they could have Naslund on the left wing.

I dont think renney will put all of his top guns on one line like that, I could see...

Dawes-Gomez-Zherdev
Naslund-Drury-Prucha

also if he wants to put Dubinsky at second line center the 2nd line would be:

Naslund-Dubi-Drury.

Its a small top 6, but highly skilled.

Zherdev had many friends here that were from Russia. Columbus has a lot of Russians living here since the 1990's. His neighbors said he is very shy and dioes not socialize with them even though the condo association has parties. He was seen nightly at a bar near his condo drinking his vodka. By contrast, Fritsche's hang out was Children's Hospital. He would be there two to three days a week, posing for pictures with the kids and playing games with them. He participated in a lot of charity events also. I hope the Rangers use him in this capacity also.

I don't think it's wise to assume that Zherdev will like it here simply because there are a lot of Russians.

It basically comes down to his commitment to the game and how he will get along with his teammates. He seems like the type of person who needs good coaching to succeed, so hopefully Renney knows what he's doing

No that's not true, I don't remember the article but a kind BlueJackets fan passed it along to us. It was talking about how he sort of came out of his shell, still used an interpreter but had a decent amount of English and by the end of the season could understand what the coach was telling him.......

Here found it, it's an EXCELLENT read if you haven't read it yet, but a few quips,

Hitchcock said Zherdev's English had improved to the point where all of his instructions were understood.
Quote:
During a training-camp scrimmage, Zherdev lost his check in front of the net and the opponent he was marking converted a crisp pass into a goal. Zherdev slowly skated over to Foote, tapped the defenseman's shin pads and smiled.
"It was Z's way of saying he had screwed up," Foote said. "He was showing accountability."
I've been a fan of this kid for years, and I think the more accustomed to American life he becomes the more his career is going to flourish. Can't wait to see him in Ranger blue!

Honestly i dont see Gomez and Z on the same line. i see are this:

Dawes-Drury-Zherdev
Naslund-Gomez-Prucha

I think Dubinsky or Fritsche will change with Prucha per team, when we need more physicality. like when we play you guys of Philly. and when we dont need as much physicality like against Montreal, and Pittsburgh

While it was super-duper gay, it's really no worse than the video we ran on opening night

Of course nothing tops that 300-inspired monstrosity in Ottawa.

We ran that video at every home game. I didn't think it was too bad, but it certainly was corny.
