I can't see how weekend games would work in the winter, the traffic would be a nightmare.

I keep wishing the Eagles would upgrade to an ECHL franchise and affiliate with the Avs. It would make so much sense...except for the fact they'd have no one to play nearby. Honestly, I half expect the CHL to collapse and the league's successful teams to join the ECHL every offseason.

We (I'm from Vail) used to have the Vail Avalanche (an AFHL team- that's where the Avs got their name). their last season was 1995-1996 before they packed up and moved to Montana. They had plenty of attendance from locals throughout the Vail Valley. And that was the American Frontier Hockey League. A few steps down from CHL.

As for road trips on the weekend, that's overrated. People who drive in it all the time don't think it's a nightmare. There are plenty of ski teams throughout Colorado who have to deal with weekend road trips throughout the winter.

I guess I read the part about traffic wrong.

Traffic really isn't a concern either. Games are at night long after the crowd from Denver hits the road after the lifts close at 4:00 pm. Night time in Vail is not a concern for traffic. we're only talking about 4,000-5,000 people too. the vast majority will be from Vail, Minturn, Avon, Edwards, Eagle, and Gypsum.

When the Eagles had their 'super secret press conference' a few weeks ago, part of me honestly thought this might be going down. That would have been one of the greatest days of my life. I also keep hoping against hope that CSU's hockey team will go Div. I

Back on topic, I read about the Vail hockey team earlier this week and I'll be happy to have more hockey in the state. I hope they aren't expecting to draw too heavily from the Denver area though. Denver already has a CHL team that was quite good last year and their attendance was an embarrassment.

My point being that Nebraska isn't known as a hockey haven yet they have a successful junior team. Colorado already having a successful NHL, CHL and NCAA teams would be a great place for a junior team.

From what I understand Colorado is too far west for the USHL at the moment (If there were a decent sized city in the plains I could see things being different). I think it will eventually happen, but it will take a greater effort on the part of whichever patron implements the team.

Since Stan is throwing money away on soccer, maybe he'd toss some money at youth hockey and buy a team.

Actually, Nebraska has 3 USHL teams... Omaha Lancers, Lincoln Stars, and Tri-City Storm.

Technically the Lancers are in Iowa.
