the eastern conference is a fast pace- offensively gifted conference with the likes of crosby, malkin, ovechkin, kovalchuk. western conference is the defensively skilled conference. they both have their advantages. neither conference is "better" than the other.

On one hand, I think Pronger is exactly the type of player that Pittsburgh needs. On the other hand, they would be crazy to trade Malkin for him.

Also, the following people need to get a clue:

1. Whoever claimed Malkin would be the 2nd line center on the Ducks.

2. Whoever said that Staal for Pronger would be a bad deal for the Penguins.

Really, a deal where Pittsburgh trades Staal+ for Pronger would be a perfect move for them to make.

Guys I think its quite obvious that the penguins will trade Jordan Staal and the 1st pick in the 09 draft for Hedman where they get their new franshise D man...end of story

You notice it's never Pens fans making these proposals, and that it's always fans of other teams who either try rip us off in bad trade proposals, or "help us" by suggesting we trade players like Malkin so that we can fill imaginary holes in our line-up.

No Pens fan wants to see Staal go for Kubina.

No Pens fan wants Malkin for Pronger.

Our team is fine. We just went to the cup final, and it's not like the Pens don't have a legitimate chance to win the conference again.

Malkin for Pronger LOL.

Does that mean I get Ovechkin for Lidstrom too?

To Anaheim: Staal
To Pittsburgh: Pronger, 2nd or 3rd pick

What you think about that?

But if some of you would accept that i jump on with a

Anaheim couldn't afford his 8.7 a year contract with how tight their budget is. Pittsburgh couldn't afford to trade away their 2nd best player for a defenseman that is Pronger's age, regardless of how good Pronger was 2 years ago.

NO.

More like:

Anaheim gives: Pronger and Ryan

for Staal, Gill and Sydor.

Seriously... If Pittsburgh gets Pronger and no defensemen goes for return, then Pittsburgh has:

Orpik - Gonchar
Whitney - Pronger
Eaton - Letang
Gill - Scuderi
Sydor - Goligoski...

Wait, STOP! No way.

Phaneuf isn't even in the same league skill-wise as Pronger. I hate Pronger but I can still see his amazing skill.

Perhaps this doesn't work because offense is more coveted in the east than it is in the West, but are you guys not trying to win now instead of 3-5 years down the road? Malkin is good, but I think you guys walk away with a very legit chance at the cup if you acquire Pronger..
Pronger is too old, and takes too many penalties. He's probably got a couple of good seasons left, but after that a sharp decline will begin.

I've seen this point argued in another thread already. Once you look at the scores the teams had and how close many of the games were (2 SO's I believe) it becomes clear that while Pitts had a winning record against the West it wasn't total domination. If I remember correctly three of the teams they beat didn't even make the playoffs.

This is why trumpeting win/loss between East/West is pointless. They don't play eachother enough to really gauge the talent between conferences. When they do play; 1 game versus 7 for a SCF isn't a big enough sample size. There's plenty of teams in the East that are dangerous and plenty in the West that are dangerous.

oh totally, it is pointless and there are great teams are either side... i completely agree with you...

it just wasn't fair for that one guy to spout off as fact, when the other guy wasn't allowed to use 'anything' to argue his side...

Ok, I think we can all agree that it won't be Pronger who they gonna get if trade's gonna happen, but I still think that Staal is going somewhere in the near future. Crosby and Malkin are just too big walls infront of him, and the only way for him to get somewhere behind those walls is to get traded. Unless he is ready to play as a winger, which would still be not-so-good option for him in my opinion.

But of course I can't know what Staal thinks about his situation and how he feels in Penguins. It's always possible that playing as a 3rd center is more than ok for him. Like I said, I can't know for sure, but with Staal Pittsburgh would have a very good chance to get superstar-level winger in the 1st line play with Cind... Sidney. Satan is not enough.

While i agree that Malkin is likely better then Getz, it is not unlikely that if Malikin where on the ducks he would play the second line, as Getz and Perry are butt buddies and must play with eachother. that combo maybe more suited for the 1st line then Malkin and whomever he would be paired with.

Not a chance Pittsburgh would do this......

However they might consider:

Pronger & (Getzlaf or Perry) + 1st(09)

for

Malkin + 2nd (09)

Maybe.............

But you have to understand Malkin is one of the top 3-5 forwards in the game already...and he's only 21...He IS a Franchise player AND as others have pointed out is signed long term relatively reasonably..........Perhaps if Pronger was 28 and you throw in Perry that itself might do it.........

But with the likes of Gonchar and Whitney, I think the last thing The Pens need is a GREAT however aging defencemen in Proger.....

Thats my .02

Did anyone ask Pronger's wife if she would play in Pitts? I wouldn't want to deal Malkin, regardless of the return, to find out you're over the barrell when his wife wants to live in Cali again. Sorry, couldn't resist.

lol what are you sorry for? It was truthful. His wife wears the pants in the family and it's no secret.

Pronger could very well be traded but I doubt it'd be for someone of Malkins abilities. Most likely they'll get a good servicable player, a good prospect, and either a project prospect or a pick. For those saying Pronger is too old to net a return...if he's what your team believes is what's needed to win a cup now they might very well trade someone important off. Dallas traded Iginla to Calgary for Nieuwendyk. Many view that as the piece that put them over the top.

Pronger will single handedly win the Stanely Cup by knocking out the whole opposing team with his elbow.

wait... so Why do Ducks fans want to get rid of a sure fire cup winner?
