The only 2008-09 Predictions That Matter

  • A day into training camp, some posters will proclaim Korpikoski as the next Gretzky or ECHL garbage depending on whatever the "news" that day is.
  • Hugh Jessiman will have 5 more threads before the season starts.
  • By the time the season starts there will be 117 posts about Crosby being a useless crybaby.
  • There will be a multitude of threads declaring Sather's prowess after a player acquired in a later round scores a goal during scrimmage.
  • There will be a multitude of threads declaring Sather a moron after they lose an exhibition game.
  • Petr Prucha won't get power play time and we will read endless posts saying that we must play him 40 minutes a game in order for him to be truly effective.
  • Some posters will explain that if the Rangers all had the attitude of Colton Orr the Cup would be an automatic.
  • There will be lots of threads all season long explaining how stupid Lamoriello is and how the Devils are doomed to last place in the league. Mysteriously, they will contend once again.
  • Prucha will break the single season record for time sliding on his buttocks.
  • Someone here will call for bringing back players like Fleury, Lindros and other folks who never performed all that well here in the first place.
  • Dolan will play in his band while employees of MSG are sexually harassed.
  • Everyone who makes a prediction here will be wrong.

that mostly sums it up, Chosen...

you forgot about the fire Renney posts after the first string of three losses, or the constant calls to juggle lines if the team fails to find chemistry on the first shift.

Should be a fun season - it always seems to be.

You forgot:

- People will complain about Drury's contract
- The first time a goal is scored while Redden is on the ice, everyone will reach the conclusion that he is going to be a total failure for his entire tenure in NY

[*] After our Powerplays struggles someone will suggest Colton Orr and Aaron Voros on the PP to screen the goalie.

Anyone know if Voros got any PP time on the Wild?? reason i ask cause outside of Dubinsky we dont have much size to crash the net and screen the goalie on the PP.

And the fire Renney posts because he juggles the lines too much

Byers has shown a knack for it in Hartford, but hard to say if he'll have success doing it in the NHL.

hmm well it wont shock me to see renney put voros on the PP from the start, remember this year we dont have to do everything jagr's way. but if it helps it cant hurt. we gotta screen the goalie more this year.

Voros did get PP time in Minny. At least quite a lot during the game that Gaborik owned us in.

i'd imagine thats why rissmiller was signed, he played a lot on the sharks PP. maybe people will start to realize that this signing wasnt just for gits and shiggles.

Voros averaged 1:24 of PP ice time on the season. Not a heck of a lot, but not zero either. He had one assist. Having watched very few Wild games I cannot tell you if his lack of PP production was a result of him having crappy hands and thus no aiblity to score around the net, or that the PP sucked and he really didn't have opportunities.

You forgot:

10215 trade proposals involving Prucha.
And
One defenseman will emerge as the whipping boy for the rest of the season ala Poti/Malik. The crowd will end up hating this person so much that they'll be booed for the second half of the season and every one will demand he be traded.
And
Playing off your last comment, the Rangers will not win the Stanley Cup

Yes, Grasshopper.

Note: Can't believe I forgot about the nauseating amount of posts from people who truly believe that they would be a better coach than Renney.

vipwe...

it's not the number of trades involved Prucha, but it's the returns. And it shouldn't stop at Prucha - it's the notion that the Rangers can trade 6 fourth liners, a spare defenseman and a couple career AHLers, along with three picks (a 5th, 6th and 7th) and acquire a young top line winger or top pair defenseman who's falling out of favor wherever they are. It's the quantity for quality theory.
