You haven't watched Gaborik play the Canucks. He's a well known Canuck killer.

I am wondering how well Niklas Backstrom would do in a place like Ottawa, other than Minnesota's defense first system

I would hate Murray for rest of my life if we trade Heatley for Gaborik.

Heatley's more durable, produced more and is under contract for 7 more years!!!!

I believe they only play the Devils once or twice, so I'm wondering the same thing.

fixed. no way is Luongo better than Brodeur. Brodeur has 3 straight Veinza's, Luongo has none.

Now unless Murray has lost his mind Heatley isn't going anywhere. As much as I would love to see Gaborik in a Sens jersey, it seems rather unlikely.

it doesnt make sense to trade heatley unless there is an extension in place with gaborik that pays less than 7.5M. Mike fisher has his NMC for the next few years, so he cant be going. I'd wonder what fans in minny would say to:

Vermette
Volchenkov
something else

for

Gaborik
Foster

i just dont see how a gaborik trade would work between these two teams.

I bet 100 bucks that in Eklund's next post he puts a likely trade as Heatley and Gerber for Gaborik and Backstrom/Harding

Just to let you know, Kurtis Foster is injured, most probably for the whole season. The BEST scenario is that he comes back in January but thats best case scenario.

Well we could move Johnsson, Bergeron, Zidlicky, or Skoula.

Done.

I think if you put Harding in the deal it would make more sense, but Backstrom is a bigger upgrade from Gerber, than Heatley is to Gaborik. Harding is unproven in the NHL so even if his potential is high his value isn't near Backstroms.

But still really unlikely that Eklund posts what you are thinking. And even if he does it just proves that you and Eklund think alike. Win-Win situation

Go ahead and make a Heatley vs. Gaborik poll. No way Gaborik wins.

How many times has Gaborik scored 50 goals? Zero? Right... And how many times has he played a full season? Less than 40% of the time? Yep, that's true too.

Add to that Gaborik's awesome 1 year left on his contract vs. Heatley's 6 and that's an easy win for Heatley. Even the biggest Sens hater should be able to see that...

Except that Heatley plays full seasons and is under contract for 5 more years after Gaborik and Backstrom.

Heatley, Heatley, Heatley, Heatley, Heatley, Heatley
vs.
Gaborik, UFA
Backstrom, UFA

End thread!
Oh ****, there's more?

Yes, they should. 6 years of Heatley is worth a heck of a lot more than 1 year of Gaborik and Backstrom. And even then... "1 year" of Gaborik is only a half season for most players.

Hahaha, Poignant Dicussion is the biggest Sens hater and no, he can't see that. Apparently projected games are more important than real games to him. Actually... it's not even projected games. Because 114 points in 68 games go well beyond even the most optimistic projection for Gaborik!

Since the lockout, regular season and playoffs.
Heatley = 269-151-174-325
MGaborik = 201-113-98-211

...and I agree completely, not a chance Minnesota deals a goaltender like Backstrom unless their getting an upgrade back, and Gerber is far from an upgrade.
If Gaborik didn't have a recurring vaginal injury, then it might be close... but he does and it isn't. Backstrom for Gerber isn't enough of an improvement for Ottawa in this instance considering that both Gaborik and Backstrom are UFA's in July, '09... and Heatley will still have 5 years left after that.

So do I... but then again, I'm pretty much at the lowest of the low on Gerber and think that a hobo begging for spare change outside of Scotiabank Place put into goalie pads would be an improvement over the mentally weak, Swiss cheese version of Roman Cechmanek.

Oh come on... having a player actually show up for 82 games so that we can finish against a bad team for the playoffs is overrated. I'd much rather pay my star winger to take 20 games off a season so that we can get smoked by the 2nd seed.

Ottawa has little talent or ability to trade from defense to improve at forward. Your deal makes no sense.

Honestly, I agree with TOMapleLaughs post above. Unless Ottawa is getting a better goalie in the deal for a package or including one of their top-8 players... ****-off!!
