Jeeze, we should call Mr. Pond right away to clarify this situation.

Yeah, dude, I miss the Jean-Luc pic, it would be so fitting for this thread... could somebody post it here, with the title : Daniel Bigras's father reacting to this!

if everyone is forgetting.. there have actually been two seasons lost. not just 04-05, but I believe it was 1917 or around there when an entire season was cancelled due to the spanish plague or something of that sort..

I thought so too, but Beaker said I was wrong back on page 1:

One Stanley Cup Final was cancelled because of the flu enfluenza and Montreal and Seattle were tied at 2-2-1 (they had ties in those days)... but the season was still played.

I don't remember that.

From wiki :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Canadiens

""In 1917, with four other NHA teams, the Canadiens formed the NHL""

I think you are refering to the 1921 or 1922 Stanley cup finals which were cancelled because of the reason you mentioned, but the season did occur.

1918-1919.

Only the last game of the NHL playoff, when many of the Canadiens were in the hospital with the spanish influenza. The serie was tied 2-2.

The stanley cup was not awarded because of the flu deaths, but the season occured, only the last game of the playoff was cancelled.

I can understand that many think that we should count the lock-out as a season, because of financial and operating reasons, and maybe that will be a good way out to explain why they are counting this season as the 100th, eventhought they only played 98.

And if the league and Canadiens tell us that, I will accept it. But the problem is that right now, they are avoiding the issue, they are not answering, they are not cooperating.

If it was a legit and clear situation, wouldn't they just reply with a clear answer?

I replied to M. Hochman and asked a simple question: Is it the 91st or 92nd season? And he never got back to me. How hard and how long does it take to reply to this simple question, if it's simple?

Ok, maybe the guy doesn't want to reply because he finds me insignificant, but if he did, he wouldn't have sent me a email first thing this morning. But I keep in mind that he might, as many of you here do, finds me insignificant.

So I called New-York again and spoke with M. David Something again. I asked to speak with M. Hochman, but he was 'out of the office.' Maybe, maybe not.

I asked David the same question: Is it the 91st or 92nd season?

His reply:

'Huh, I don't know, I'm new here, I'm just an intern.'

I replied: 'Oh, ok, can I speak with someone that could answer?'

His reply: 'Oh, everybody is gone for the day.'

I almost laughed. Obviously he's avoiding me. But why?

'Can you have someone call me back?'

He said: 'Sure, what's your number?.

I gave him and asked him:

'Thanks David, much appreciated. Btw, what's your last name so I can know who I talk to?'

'My last name? Huh.. ' CLICK. He hung up on me.

Ok, maybe you think I'm not writing everything, that's I'm hiding some facts of the discussions that might lead him to want to avoid me. But I'm not.

He obviously doesn't want to answer this question, he doesn't want me to talk to anyone, and he hungs up on me.

No news from M. Lavigne of the Montreal Canadiens.

Why is everybody avoiding this simple question?

What's so difficult about this question? If it was a dumb question, it would be very easy to answer, no?

That's why I find it fishy.
Let me explain this very slowly....

THEY ARE ANNOYED BY YOU INSISTING ON MAKING THIS POINT AND NOT LISTENING TO THE PART IN HIS FIRST EMAIL WHERE M. HOCHMAN POLITELY EXPLAINED YOUR ERROR.... THEY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH YOU ANY MORE CAUSE THEY HAVE REAL WORK TO DO AND YOU ARE ANNOYING THEM.

THERE IS NOTHING FISHY GOING ON. YOU REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THEM JUST LIKE YOU REFUSE TO LISTEN TO EVERYONE ON EVERY OTHER BOARD YOU"VE POSTED ON, AND EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD. THEY WERE NICE TO YOU AND GAVE YOU A POLITE ANSWER WHY YOU WERE WRONG... YOU INSISTED.... THEN THEY GAVE YOU THE "WE'LL LOOK INTO IT, DON'T CALL US; WE'LL CALL YOU" RESPONSE AND YOU INSISTED AND PERSISTED... SO NOW THEY ARENT TALKING TO YOU AT ALL.

THEY WANT YOU TO GO AWAY BECAUSE YOU CANNOT BE REASONED WITH.

You know, trying to sound knowledgable won't make everybody think you didn't take it from wiki or some place else :

""In 1919, the Spanish influenza epidemic forced the Montreal Canadiens and the Seattle Metropolitans to cancel their series, marking the first time the Stanley Cup was not awarded.[30] The series was tied at 2𣇻, but the final game was never played because Montreal Manager George Kennedy and players Joe Hall, Billy Coutu, Jack McDonald, and Newsy Lalonde were hospitalized with influenza. Hall died four days after the canceled game, and the series was abandoned""

Hum. Interesting point.

Btw, because the olympic sequence never stopped, eventhought the games were cancelled.

I guess you have the best argument to prove that it will be the 100th season.

Beaker, you know it's not true, it was the cigarette smoking dude who was beside the intern at the NHL office, holding a gun to his head, telling to not divulge the BIG secret.

This thread is epic. Peoples will remember it for years to come, and will bring it back to life sporadically for the lulz. If, of course, a mod doesn't simply close it for good.

Well, I wish Montrealer would have come along 300 messages ago.

I guess it took a Montrealer to fix this.

Just because the NH:L didn't have a game that year doesn't mean the HABS didn't exist and couldn't count a year. Maybe Gainey's dealing and working count as a season for the Habs?

Let me put it this way:

"the NHL doesn't count the lockout season for its historical purpose, but the Habs and the NHL count the lockout season as a season in the history of the franchise"

How bout that?

Does that make it 100 now?
the lockout is a season, officially. There was a draft for the 04/05 season, there were trades, there was free agency, and most importantly it counted as an elapsed year on player and staff contracts.
