i always would up with terrible goaltending in NHL 08 anyway, because i just stacked my team up front and won every game 7-4 (a la this years tampa bay lightning perhaps?), with no cap room for a decent goalie. thanks for winning me a bunch of cups, jimmy howard!

If so then that is why I always have to change stats on players.

i hope they have the fighting like 2k games. i hate going on a breakaway or a 2 on 1and all of the sudden a fight happens. and the fights should be human controlled cause if we wanna see drury fight, we should be able too and to select when we want to fight.

This seems like a good spot for this - I was looking at screenshots the other day, and I found this image extremely ominous:

Yes and no. The first thing to understand is that despite it's success last year, the EA NHL games are small market products. Hockey (even taking Canada into consideration) is not nearly as big as Basketball, Football, Baseball and Soccer. Hence a lot more money is delegated to those development teams which results in better games overall. NHL 08 can't touch Madden in terms of features and development.

Fortunately, some EA branches know how to stretch a dollar and NHL 08 was a very, very good game from a playability standpoint; and NHL 09 looks to be even better. However, the statistics and research were on the poor side and they don't appear to be getting better.

Not to mention hockey is considerably more complicated than football, baseball, etc. In football, a player plays on offense, defense or special teams (typically), while in hockey, virtually every player in the lineup plays offense and defense, kills penalties or runs the powerplay, or both. That's a lot of information to consider, and it seems like EA has focused more on offense and checking ability rather than defense, probably because it's not as exciting.

Plus, like I said, Canadian players tend to get slightly, if not severely boosted ratings. As good as Crosby is, there is no way his Defensive Awareness (DAWR) is better than Zetterberg's and Datsyuk's who were both Selke nominees.

Crosby: 92
Datsyuk: 85
Zetterberg: 90

i dunno, this looks exactly like the kind of image they have in nhl 08 pregame shots. plus redden doesn't have that typical cpu "oh no, the other team scored, i'm gonna skate with my head down dejectedly" attitude

I didn't like it, either. I don't wanna use the stupid "skill stick"

they need to make a version for people that have owned every NHL since NHL Hockey for Genesis.

I don't want career mode....like who has the time for that?

I'd rather have more arcade and less sim.

People like me who have had their social life shot to hell by friends relocating and too many hours at the office.

I'm pretty sure there is an option to revert to "original" controls as well. I think the skill stick is probably one of the best additions to the game, but to each their own.

The ratings are dumb, but you can edit them.....

The game itself is going to be amazing.

you can, but it completely limits your game play.

the other thing I hate is that there is essentially no way to have speed bursts that are at all noticeable

You're certainly in the minority there. '08 was lauded as one of the best sports games available. Some even put it up as one of the most well done overall games of the year. Hope you enjoy '09.

i am glad you enjoyed it but i just felt there was a lot of things that needed improvement. some of those things i have noticed have been addressed.

the problems i had with freezing and bugs was shocking, i had the game for both 360 and ps3 and had the same problems with both, the game was good but it wasn't as good as it was made out to be, imo.

at the end of the day we all want the game this year to be the dogs bollocks so fingers crossed
