How would Iginla have played if he was a member of the Flames in the 1980s?

Would his numbers have been better or worse?

he probably wouldve fared quite well considering he'd have someone like nilsson setting him up along with being a big guy with some top end skill.

but then again late 80s rosters were tremendously skilled. i cant see him receiving a ton of first line minutes ahead of mullen, bullard, & loob

hard to say if his impact would be the same, and considering the flames didnt have a lot of guy breaking the 100 point barrier in such a high scoring era + iggy averaging slightly over ppg(over the past 7 seasons of course), i doubt his numbers would be much higher

i think iggy would have been even more dominant. his combination of speed and strength would be an even greater advantage in that era. teams played more offensive (no traps, no lw lock). the D back then weren't nearly as big and strong. if they were big guys, they were no where near as mobile and quick as they are today.

iggy would still get top 6 minutes with the great flames teams between 86-89.

If Iggy as we know him today was playing in the late 70's and 80's - we'd be talking about him in the same way people talk about Gretzky. The sport has changed, Iggy would have been the most (or 2nd most) dominant player in the league had he played in that era with his current skillset/physique.

Who cares? The main thing is the way he plays now. If Iggy had been knocking around those dirty sissies in the 70s/80s he wouldn't be here with us now. If he was, he'd be grinding the fourth line like Gary Roberts.

You must be kidding. Iginla probably the best forward to wear a flames jersey. Loob was a great talent that left NA far too early for my liking, but what was his best year? 50 goals! Now that is great but how many other players in the league got 50 goals that year? (I am not sure where to find this feel free to answer) Last year Iggy got 50 goals and only 2 other players achieved that feat.

I bet if Iggy played back in the 80's he would have got more than 70 goals. His blend of Power, speed and skill. Would have been dominant. Though I think that many of todays players would have ripped it up back in the day.

the thought of a Loob - Nieuwendyk - Iginla line makes me happy in my pants

and even the early 90s... a line of Roberts - Fleury - Iginla
