Can we be honest fellow NHL fans, all these deals are horrible...same as last summer...Every guy is overpaid. The worst are the 6-7 million dollar guys.....Drury, Gomez, Redden and Campbell now make in the same league as Crosby? Jesus.

The NHL has reverted back to salaries before the lockout...except now we just have a cap. Dudes are getting bought out left and right.

But, in my opinion, Redden's deal is the worst. Same with Campbell...has anyone watched the playoffs the past two years? These guys were awful.

I'm very disappointed that the Caps didn't pony up the dough to sign Huet.

This move will haunt Washington for years. We'll all be looking back thinking, "man, that 07/08 Washington playoff team was something special. That Philly series could have gone either way. I wish they didn't break everyone up" much like we remember the 05/06 Sabres' playoff squad - except replace "poor management" with "injuries."

A team cannot be successful without a solid goaltender, no matter how many flashy, Russian forwards you have. Period.

Does nobody understand the factors that went into it?

The Caps met Huet's demands, and he backed out. The Caps would rather keep Semin and Backstrom (you know, that Swedish kid that's kind of the core to the franchise after Ovechkin?) in 2 years than have an overpriced 1a for 4. It would have been awesome to keep him, he fit well and was good in the room, but he obviously didn't care all that much about staying.

Theo wanted to come here, and his deal actually makes sense for the team. It was a no-brainer once Huet got Chicago involved.

I don't know whether it is true or not but i heard Huet backed out because Washington refused to give him a 4th year.

Huet asked for 3 years, 5 mil per. That had been his standing asking price since the end of the season. After trying to negotiate a deal (and Huet's camp not budging), GMGM decided to cave and accept 3 years at 5 mil per. At that point Huet said no thanks, would wait and see what came as a UFA. GMGM even went a bit higher (I think on July 1), but Huet went and got an offer from Chicago. I think he gave the Caps the chance to match, but at that point the deal wasn't doable at all for the Caps, so here we are.

The 4th year would have been a part of it, but the cap hit was probably just as much (or, rather, the two at once). I bet the Caps could have lived with 4 years at 4 mil, or 5.6 for 2 years, but not the 5.6 for 4 that he got from Chicago.

Wait what? I thought they signed Theo for more money than Huet? what the hell am I thinking then.
Anyways I'd rather much see Huet in a Capitals jersey than Theo. Huet was a beast for the Capitals.

Theo, 4.5 per for 2 years.

Huet, 5.6 per for 4 years.

Not a contract that the Caps could have given at all. It would have been awesome to keep him, but at that price/length letting him walk was 100% the right move.

I believe the Bruins will be the most underrated team in the NHL this coming season.

They are definately on the rise.

I actually agree with you. A lot has been said about the oilers and other teams with up and coming young players. However, Boston's youth movement has been quite underrated. With bergeron,Lucic, Nokelienen(sp?) and Krecji, to name a few. Wideman, Stuart and Lashoff in the future. When sturm can score 27 goals with savard as the Set up man, Ryder too will get back on track. May be savard with sturm and Bergeron with ryder will be the top 2 lines!

Hagman for the Leafs.

Actually, not really.

But Finger isn't going to play as well as he did in Colorado.

Easily? 30-35 is the very most you can expect from him IMO. But I still don't see even that occurring. Super playmakers Ribeiro and Koivu couldn't get more than 30 out of Mikey, so I doubt he gets 40 with Savard like some are predicting. He declined last season much like Zednik the year before the Habs cut him and Zed never recovered (the skate to the throat is an isolated incident of course). Whatever the case, I'll be a bit stunned if he can't even crack the 20 goal mark. The Bruins are on the rise for sure, but I'll stick with my own team's talent, speed and skill for the time being.

Anyways, should be a nice, healthy rivalry developing. I hate it when in a rivalry one of the teams just sucks (as was the case from 05-07 with Boston and 98-01 for the Habs). If the Habs are going to win regular season series again, it might as well be against a good Bruins team and not a mediocre one. But maybe I'm just getting tired of first round series between the two cause I sort of want to see someone else in the opening round for a change. Gosh, we've played Boston and Carolina so often. Give me something new!

A lot of defenseman were overpaid as usual as the need is high for them.

Huet → No way he's worth it.
Streit → Pretty darn overrated and overpaid for too long a term. But this is the 15yr contract team, so whatever...
Rolston → He'll be great in yr 1. So-so in year 2. And then fade out by year 3 of the 4yr deal.
Morrison → He'll play around half a season or less.
Naslund → He'll retire. But still suit up for the Rangers to alleviate boredom.
Avery → The will is there. The skill is somewhat there. But the cap hit is just too high.
Nolan → Borderline retirement. Not 2yr deal.
Malone → Good playoff, but sorry, but he's not worth 4.5mil.
Hainsey → Huh?
Stillman → There's not that much gas left in the tank.
Bertuzzi → He would've retired if it weren't for Iron Mike.
Hagman → Career year was last year.
Holik → He's not the same player, Lou.
Theodore → Not sure if weak SE defenses are exactly what he needs to turn around his career. But who knows...
Miettinen → Too much for a bottom 6.
Brunnstrom → Wow is he overrated.
Brunnette → He just might fade away during that last contract.
R. Blake → Is he really still worth 5mil? This might just prevent SJ from improving at the deadline.
For a 1 year, 1.875 mil dollar contract, I can't think of any team that wouldn't take him

I can think of many. Starting with every team he's played for to this point (possibly excluding the Islanders).
