Just a Quick Hit for your Friday Night because this news is big and its from someone who VERY much is in the know in this situation....While it is still uncertain as to whether or not Sundin is going to play, I am told by my source the following...
"We are hearing that the Rangers will sign Mats and deal Gomez."
This source is a source I very much trust. Of course Mats still has to come to play.
Following this lead was fascinating tonight because it opened up some serious other sources who had this information "off the record" until I presented them with this.
One of my sources then proceeded to tell me that the Vancouver Canucks have "HUGE Interest in Scotty Gomez..."
this guys is always good for a laugh or two, but hes really starting to annoy me on a whole new level.
this is such an asinine rumor. i can totally see mats becoming a ranger, but i see no chance in hell of gomez being dealt. none whatsoever. the rangers are built to be a north-south, speedy team and gomez is the personification of that style.
i've said it on the nyr board numerous times. the only reasonable cap clearing scenario is as follows:
the rangers have about 2 mil in cap space, trade prucha to make it 3.6, keep voros or rissmiler off of the big club to make it 4.6. once the cba is renewed for next season, a 4.6 base plus 2-3 in reasonably attainable incentives should be enough money.

is Sundin really that much better than Gomez at this point in their careers?
I can't really say I understand this either. Gomez is still pretty young and I think can put up close to Sundins numbers. Unless the Rangers sign him to a 1 year deal and go for a big name FA next year, this doesn't really make sense.
So Eklund annoys you, yet you decide to repost this rumor so.....you can let him annoy other people? Or is it the satisfaction of knowing lolz I can has start new threads lolz
So the OP annoys you, yet you decide to bump this thread so...
On topic, I like this approach from the Rangers POV. Get a year of Gomez' prime, ship him off for some futures, and get a (pretty much) guaranteed star quality year out of Sundin. All while clearing cap space in a year or two to resign Staal, Cherepanov, Anisimov, etc. What's the downside? Losing Gomez during his decline. Sounds like smart business to me.
