Hodgson and a 1st? That's laughable. This trade isn't going to happen and THAT is ridiculous overpayment for a guy who is overpaid himself.

If they sign Sundin, they are trading from a position of WEAKNESS. They will NEVER get value for a trade.

Vancouver needs a goalscorer, which gomez is not. Plus he has a horrible contract. If rangers do trade him, they won't get much for him since they can't afford to take much salary back and other teams will know they want to offload him to sign sundin.

Agreed. Just saying that the bolded would be a starting point for what I'd personally consider. However, Gomez in this case would be a salary dump, so any return for him considering his salary would be horrendous. It's exactly why the rumor is ludicrous, and why Sather would be crazy to do it.

Sundin is a downgrade from Gomez.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Why would any team in the NHL do NY a favor by giving them fair value for a player they need to get rid of to get under the cap with Sundin? Any time a team gets hamstrung by a player or situation every other GM tries to spin it to their advantage. If they didn't they shouldn't have the job.

Look at examples from the recent past. Pronger and Jokinen are the two that come to mind the fastest. Pronger demanded a trade and Edmonton got much less than he was worth. Jokinen was going to be dealt and other teams refused the hardball demands from Florida and they settled on the offer from Phoenix. When you're not dealing from a position of strength (trade deadline or desired player that's happy playing there) you have to be ready with a little lube...cuz it's gonna hurt.

Yikes! No thanks.

As for the OP, don't get annoyed at Eklund, he is what he is. You getting annoyed is all on you. I've actually been following his site regularly for the past few months and there's something I noticed. Every rumour seems to be linked to the Canucks, Oilers, or a few other select teams. My guesse is he has inside info on these few teams which leads me to believe that he does have inside info. Wether that source is a janitor or a psychic or an actual ligit source is another storey.

As for the rumour, why not? The Canucks need a centre if no Sundin and the Rangers need cap room if they get Sedin. Price is another storey. The Canucks got nothing of value that they can afford to give up other than cap room. So unless it's another Bernier type deal when we trade a first in 2012 and a second in 2011 I don't see the deal happening. A first and Patrick White? But definately not Hodgson.

Shy.

I don't think rangers need anything of much value if they trade gomez. They probably realize now what a horrible contract that is and if they can offload that to another team, it's a win win for them. They sign sundin for one year and then have lots of cap space to sign a free agent next year.

Sundin will play max 2 years...if he even decides to play again while Gomez is signed for 6 more years. If i was a Rangers fan i would want to keep Gomez.

Good one. Gomez has exactly one 20-goal season in his entire NHL career.
