per Puck-Rakers

Are we still affiliated with Elmira?

We're sharing this affiliation with the Colorado Traitors. I don't like it.

We need to get away from Adam Foote's influence. I've heard from a reliable source that he called Stefan Legein and told him to retire, in an effort to screw Columbus. Maybe he could tell the Colorado prospects to sabotage the Columbus prospects.

I don't like the affiliation-sharing, but I have a bunch of family in J-town and am quite familiar with the city, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Former stop of CBJ greats Jody Shelley and Arturs "lockout" Irbe - so we got some history too.

I'd go for that if it's part of some long term plan to kick the Avs out of Cleveland.

We shared the Elmira affiliation with Ottawa last year, unless you are saying the Sens are now the sole affiliate of the Jackals?

ECHL affiliations switch around even more than AHL. There are usually 4-5 affiliation switches in the AHL every year, probably close to double that with ECHL. Although I don't watch that league as much, I could be off on the numbers a bit. I don't think there is any particular reason, there would be factors - location (Johnstown isn't all that far from Syracuse ~3.5 hours), facilities, coaches.

It isn't all that uncommon to share affiliations in the minors either. Again there are 2-3 in the AHL most years. Some teams just don't have enough prospects to field a team and don't want to fill a roster with non-prospects. It's even less common to have 15 or so AHL level prospects (with 5 vets) and also 10+ ECHL level prospects. That's not counting CHL prospects either. Thats a lot of prospects in the system. I think at most the Jackets have 6-8 ECHL prospects, most players at that level actually aren't in the system of a particular team. That lets them sign an AHL deal to be an injury fill in with any team that needs the help.

So, don't read that much into it being a split affiliation, it's just to keep a full roster at that level.

Because it's the nature of the beast below the AHL.
These minor-minor league teams are good for hockey, but not necessarily good for the teams in terms of development. The top prospects don't come from these teams.

In addition, the minor-minor team owners don't always run these teams in the best interests of the sponsoring NHL club and players, in terms of: sales, facilities, coaching, training, player handling, marketing. And the economics of some of these small towns has been changing with the economy. So the deals change.
