oh man.. prepare to get killed by some of the posters here... you dare put Prucha in your top 6 and put Cally as a 3rd line/extra forward? Tsk tsk... Personally, I don't hate the lines, but might have Cally play the RW instead of Sjo, drop Sjo to 4th line/extra... admittedly I have no idea what to do with the glut of 3rd/4th liners we now have.

you are missing fritsche

naslund-gomez-fritsche-----fritsche does the dirty work in the corners and goes to the net
dawes-drury-zherdev-----zherdev has two legit finishers with him and drury gets two playmakers to feed him the puck and play the up-tempo counter-attacking game he likes to play
callahan-dubinsky-sjostrom------defensively responsible line who will get in on the forecheck and disturb opposing defenses, will score the dirty goals and create energy
voros-betts-rissmiller/orr------energy line with players who bring different qualities(i.e. toughness and penalty killing)

staal-redden
girardi-rozsival
mara-kalinin

Playing a third liner on a top line is often a recipe for disaster. I understand the concept, and it signs nice, but at the same time their skill level isn't on par with the other two guys and it doesn't make sense. Pretty much like Isbister with Jagr. Having a guy like Avery seemed to make sense - but Avery, when on, was a focused player with good hands and skills and was able to fit in. I haven't seen enough of Fritsche, but not sure if an MO of going into corners is enough to justify playing with those skilled players.

If we get Sundin:

Naslnd-Sundin-Drury
Dawes-Gomez-Zherdev
Callahan-Dubinsky-Fritsche
Voros/Orr-Betts-Sjostrom

If we dont get Sundin, in which we will get Shanahan:

Naslund-Gomez-Prucha
Dawes-Drury-Zherdev
Shanahan-Dubinsky-Fritsche/Callahan
Voros/Orr-Betts-Callahan/Fritsche/Sjostrom

Staal-Rozsival
Redden-Girardi
Mara-Kalinin
Pock

In a dream: (Gomez for Gaborik, Rozsival traded to make room for Sundin)

Naslund-Sundin-Gaborik
Dawes-Drury-Zherdev
Sjostrom-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Fritsche

Staal-Redden
Mara-Girardi
Kalinin-Potter/Pock/vet obtained for Roszy?

What I think will happen:

Naslund-Sundin-Zherdev
Dawes-Gomez-Drury
Sjostrom-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Fritsche

Staal-Redden
Mara-Girardi
Kalinin-Potter/Pock/vet obtained for Rozsy?

If nothing changes:

Naslund-Gomez-Prucha (similar to what viper wanted but I'd try Prucha before Fritsche, I think he could turn it around if he gets opportunites a/k/a garbage goals)
Dawes-Drury-Zherdev
Sjostrom-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Fritsche

Staal-Redden
Rozsival-Girardi
Kalinin-Mara

In all scenarios, Rissmiller and Orr are scratches up front and Pock is the 7th defenseman. And yes the first one is essentially a joke based off an Eklund rumor I know will never come true, but it never hurts to dream lol.

i agree with these lines....would be great to get gaborik but i dont think thats realistic....gomez was signed for a reason.....i like the second group of lines although i would really like to have zherdev play with gomez and drury as i think they will be the more dynamic pair compared to sundin and naslund

drury-gomez-zherdev
naslund-sundin-dawes
fritsche-dubinsky-callahan
sjostrom-betts-voros
rissmiller, orr, prucha

redden-rozsival
girardi-staal(shut-down pairing)
mara-kalinin

the top two pairings would be more a 1a and 1b pairings where they would get abou the same amount of ice time

Don't forget we probably have to get rid of someone for Sundin. I like the Drury-Gomez-Zherdev line though, but we would probably have to deal Rozsival to make it happen (which I'm okay with)

You won't believe how well Fritsche can retrieve the puck on a dump in. He is great at digging it out from behind the opponents net also

I might be off base here in terms of contracts numbers so correct me if I am wrong.

Over 7M for both Drury and Gomez, around 6.75M for Lundqvist, 6.5 Redden, Rozsival 5M, Naslund 4M, Zherdev around 2.5, comes down to roughly 39M give or take 500K for 7 players and this is not inluding Sundins contract. Am I missing something?

So Van offered 10M a year (rumor) but Sundin will sign with NYR for 2M a year?

Eklown reported it, so it probably means a 7 mil offer. I think Sundin will go to the Laffs and we'll re-sign Captain Shanny.

no, i just think there will be an agreement to allow bonuses to go over the cap and sundin will get 6.5 million with the 2 million in space and prucha being dealt thats 3.6...add 3-3.4 million and that gives you 6.6-7 million to offer sundin to play on a one-year contract.......

Good call on Fritsche, I don't see him playing top line minutes though.

Trade:
Scott Gomez to Vancouver for a 1st round pick.

Sign:
Mats Sundin to a 1 year, $7 million deal

Naslund - Sundin - Prucha
Dawes - Drury - Zherdev
Fritsche - Dubinsky - Callahan
Voros - Betts - Sjostrom

ditto...

I think it would be ridiculous for the Rangers to move Gomez to sign Sundin. I don't think it's possible to move ANY of the big contract guys for a variety of reasons to make room for Sundin.

More over, if Sundin wants to play here, he can work around the Rangers' cap situation.

i cant believe people want to get rid of gomez.....its like they have lost interest in some new toy......rediculous......

gomez is the perfect player for what the rangers want to do.....he is fast, a great puck carrier and a playmaker......im sorry people, but if you want to play a counter-attacking style and an up-tempo style like the rangers want to do now then scott gomez should be one of the players you should want.....he creates with his speed and vision and allows space for his linemates....people talk about jagr and how he creates space but when everyone on the ice is watching gomez carry the puck from end to end no one watches as dawes or naslund streak down the far side for an easy tap-in goal......

But not surprising. People were concerned whether or not the Rangers would be able to trade Gomez (and Drury for that matter) on the day he was signed.
