Gaborik

Minnesota is trying to sign Gaborik to an extension, however if they fail it has been mentioned that they would possibly trade him for the right package.

What would be a good package to try and trade/sign him???

Too much for Poile to be interested and there's no way we could sign him to an extension.

I think this is a bad idea for the Predators due to Gaborik's groin issues. It isn't IS he going to get hurt, it is WHEN he is going to get hurt. I would love to bring in a star like Gaborik, and I feel we can easily afford the prospects......However, we cannot afford to add a 'star' that has a 50/50 chance of missing 20 games a season.

He would be a great pickup, but it would cost alot in a trade and plus he'd be expensive.. so that puts the Predators out of the running.

How about Gionta fron New Jersey? Jersey is about 55M and Gionta is going to be a UFA next season. He would be a great winger to go along side of Erat and Legwand. He salary is $4M and it would probably take VK or KK along with a draft pick or prospect to grab him up.

Other teams which are in cap trouble and who could be willing to trade are:

Chicago...Lang
Philly...Knuble, Carter, Upshall
Washington...Kozlov, Nylander
Calgary...Conroy
Anaheim...Marchant, Neidermyer, Kunitz, Moen, Phalsson
San Jose... Cheechoo, Michalek
Detroit...Kopecky, Hudler, Samuelsson
Dallas...Eriksson, Lundqvist, Ott
Pittsburgh...Sykora, Stall
NJ...Gionta, Madden, Zajac
NYR...Prucha
Boston...Sturm, Murray
Edmonton...
Tampa Bay...Jokinen, Ouellet

Philly is not in cap trouble, Hatcher is on LTIR to begin the season and his salary won't count against the cap ... Pittsburgh isn't going to give up Staal

I'm not sure what tampa is asking for but if Jokinen could be had for a pick I think he would a predator by now

Somehow I doubt that... I think the Bolts are weghing all possibilities. I would love to land Jokinen and Ouellet together, personally.

I tend to agree. Klein won't get us a top-six forward. Zidlicky was the only asset we had that could do that, and we'll have to wait and see whether that trade pays dividends, although with him living with the Arnotts and doing promotions with the team (he'll be at the zoo with Tootoo on 11/14), I think one of those open roster spots is his to lose.

No way New Jersey gives up Gionta for another d-man and depth forward, they have enough as is.

Tampa Bay will trade Jokinen of picks or prospects. They do not want to add anymore payroll.

Gaborik still remains unsigned and it looks like they could let him go. How about a trade package of:

Radulov
Franson
1st round pick in 09

its going to take more than Radulov/Franson & our 1st in '09 ...
try Wilson, Franson, our 1st & 2nd in '09 ... for a player that's hurt more often than not ... he hasn't played more than 80 games since the '02-'03 season ... in the last three season he's missed a total of 56 games (5 last season, 34 the season before that and 17 in '05-'06)

Unless they know that they have ZERO chance of signing Gaborik and are willing to take whatever they can get, it's going to take a good bit more than that and the deal would probably have to involve Colin Wilson...
