BGL turned down 4 year/6M offer from Oilers

Considering the lopsided provincial tax difference, Laraque will get significantly less $ on a per year basis with us too.

"The East has some older guys like Brash (Donald Brashear) and (Wade) Belak. They only will fight because they feel they have to. The West has younger guys, who like doing it," Laraque said.
I'm not sure Brashear and Belak will like to hear that...

I'd bet there's a gentleman's agreement between BGL and BG to deal him to Edmonton if things don't work out here. I think he'll do great here, but it does seem like a big piece of his heart lies in Edmonton.

Perhaps that's what his "adjusted no-trade clause" or whatever is...he can decline trades to anywhere but Edmonton. Sounds silly but just a guess

He should have taken the extra year, because this might be his last contract. He's 34, how much longer will he play? Phisical guys like him don't last long. At 37, he'll be a gamble to sign.
Good Luck to Georges, I hope he like playing in Montreal./

Very possible. I think he will do fine here this year playing in 70-75 games and dropping the gloves when needed.

If you're gonna post the article, at least post the reason why:

"Mother's desire to watch him play made Laraque choose Montreal"

By reading the full article, there was a lot more than that factoring in his decision. Instead of posting every factor, might as well read the article.

ya his mom said that he is 31 and would be 34 at the end of the contract. Then he could sign a deal in edmonton at the age of 34 if he can.

If his mom has his shape, I understand why he listens to her.

Don Brasher is still going at 36 soon to be 37 .

George L says he still got another contract in him after the 3 years in Montreal so he is thinking he got some miles left in the tank come mid 30's

as much of a difficulty as it is for the habs to recruit players, they do seem to be turning the corner with Quebec born players... its just too bad that the talent pool in quebec is declining.

Maybe, but I'm more than happy with acquiring Tanguay.

Give Montreal another year among the top 3 teams in the east with a strong talent pool and that difficulty will mean nothing.

They see we have a good team now. Who wants to play in Montreal when the team stinks? Not too many.. :p
