I wouldn't go that far. Plus there is no doubt that Gomez is a gritter player in the sense that he doesn't shy away from physical play and is mentally tougher.

hes a devils fan how is that being a homer. And he is one of the most fair posters on HF, he has no bias, well he does hate the rangers, so honestly what he said is correct. and also lets look at teamates Spezza has played with compared to Gomez. Heatley to Shanahan, is it even close, nope Heatley takes the cake by being one of the best goalscorers in the game. and how about Avery/Straka to Alfredsson again this is a big joke is you can even compare the two to Alfie. So it definetly is closer than you may think. so i say to you is, Dont be a Homer.

Sens give up Volchenkov and Spezza, and all they get back is Nigel Dawes, Betts, and Michael Roszival?

Bryan Murray would like to keep his job, I think.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot that Spezza is only good because he plays with Heatley and Alfie, Heatley is only good because he plays with Alfie and Spezza and Alfie is only good because he plays with Heatley and Spezza.

I like the guy, but there's no way Gomez is as good a player as Spezza, let alone better.

That trade proposal is HORRIBLE for Ottawa. As for Gomez being better than Spezza, I highly doubt that. Gomez has reached his peak IMO. Spezza on the other hand is still gettin there.

Then say

"So it definetly is closer than you may think"

The only argument you make in your post between Spezza and Gomez is that Spezza has better line mates, thats the only argument you make in support of your its definitely closer than you think argument. Therefore you are saying that because Spezza has better line mates he is actually a worse player than he appears, and is thus made better by his line mates. Got it?

If you wanted to argue the point based on something other than his line mates making him better, why did you mention nothing else but his line mates in your post?

Yeah Ottawa gets shafted, big time.

They shafted the Islanders to get Spezza, I doubt they're going to trade him after locking him up long-term.

If Ottawa was getting some picks, and maybe some prospects or young roster players like Dubinsky or Cherepanov, maybe then they'd think about this one.

And as much as I like Gomez, Spezza is the best player in the deal. He's a legit #1 center who could easily be a franchise player, is young, and is locked up at a more than reasonable price for a while. In terms of talent alone, Gomez isn't that far off, but talent, salary, age, and all other factors included, Spezza wins this one.

Spezza is going to get over 100 points this season, I was reading hockey news and they had him 4th in projected points under OV, Wizard and Zetter. Thats got to be worth alot more than the scrap parts sent to Sens end. And for the OP who said Gomez > Spezza, Gomez had less than half the goals of Spezza despite having more games played. And Spezza usually only plays with one of Heatley or Alfredsson, a 3rd line player is always bumped up to even out scoring so the CASH line comment isn't credible.

Terriable trade but i had a couple good laughs at the othe responses so im actually happend i stumbled over this.

Who the Hell are Volvhenkov and Biaksa? And why does Ottawa give up Spezza for a career minor leaguer, 2 2nd tier d-men, and a young 3rd/4th liner? At least give them a crap goalie and a 2nd round pick to even out the scales.

I thought Volchenkov and Bieksa were pretty commen names by now, unless you were joking but i dont detect any sarcasim. Volchenkov and Bieksa are both pretty valuable defencman. Volchenkov is considered one of the best shot blocking defencman, had most blocked shots in 06/07. Bieksa had a short season last year but is capable of playing over 20 minutes a game for 75-80 games.
