When i'm trying to find a potential bust, I usually look at last year's scouting reports and compare them to this year. Usually, the fast risers have the most bust potential due to the fact that players don't often shift their entire game from decent to great in the period of one year, or one season. While there are quite a few who have dropped off the face of the earth (Wes O'Neill, Evan McGrath, and Rob Schremp to some extent), there are others who have shot up like a rocket. I'm part of the camp that thinks if a player is highly skilled enough, he will maintain a pretty high ranking. Such is the case with Ovechkin, Malkin, Olesz, and Montoya. All of these players were highly regarded at this time last year, and thus I give them the edge.
My high bust potential players are almost all fast risers. Alexander Radulov is one. A.J. Thelen is another. Boris Valabik is one as well.
