Let's not give Eklund too much (read: any) of the credit here. There was talk of getting Schneider from the Ducks on this very board (and the trade board) weeks ago. I'm surprised to see people reacting like this is the first they've heard of the idea.

I see Bouillon, Obyrne and Gorges all getting a bit of pressbox time as 7th dman to start the season. It's good to have all of them around and active so incase of injury to any Dman they could easily join the lineup.

Agreed. O'Byrne doesn't (not yet, anyway) have the head for the game that Bouillon does, IMHO.

Anyway, it's a moot point. Chances are the Habs' ridiculously good luck regarding injuries won't continue, and that our "7th defenceman" will play tons of games, as is the norm in the NHL. O'Byrne, Bouillon and Gorges will all get plenty of ice time.

Anyone know the last e4 he posted? He doesn't usually post those and it's the last step before e5 where's it's official, just not announced yet.

Edit:

I mixed up his years left. It wouldn't be too bad, actually.

The last E4, Ek stuck his own foot in his mouth... and it's been awhile since he's made one, so I wonder, there might some solid truth to this.

I hope you understand that this is the last year on contract for Schneider???

It has no bearing whatsoever for next year...

Come up with something better next time.

Are you ready to possibly ruin a top4 potential defensmen because right now a 6th defensmen is slightly better and it's our 100th season? because if that's it, it's a piss poor reason. We're still very far from being at full potential when it comes to the team in general, our forwards, our defensmens, our goalies, we're young evreywhere and have to keep devoloping our players, O'byrne is done with the AHL ( his 1 way contract proves it) and he needs to play with the big club, even at the expence of such a defensmen like Francis Bouillon. With a reliable D like Hamrlik, Bouillon woudn't even do better then O'byrne

Yeah, I mixed his years up with Pronger's, hence the edit.

I don't think you'd be able to find an example of a stay at home d-man who was "ruined" by playing the role of a 7th rather than a 6th.

a 7th D isin't in the line-up, it will either compramise one's devolopment, or we'l be stuck with 1 pissed off 5'8 defensmen who's 1 year away from free agency

He addresses a solid PP man with Markov and he also plays a good defensive game as well, but we still have a glaring need at centre as well. Our wings are really strong, we need some help on the offensive side at the centre position.

I would rather spend our cap room on two guys at 3 millions each or 4M$ and a 2 M$ rather than 6 M $ on Schneider alone. We need a center AND a defenseman !

If we desparately need a puck moving defensemen ( if Streit is missing so much on the PP) we could find a PP specialist and play him only on the PP a la Bergeron. But i think Carbo will play 4 forwards in the PP this year (Tanguay, Kost jr, Kovalev, Koivu one of these guys will play D).

We miss a 4-5 defensemen and a 3rd center 6 M$ should be enough for both but If we spend 6 M$ and Schneider we risk the possibilité of Koivu or Plekanek to get hurt and we're left without a decent replacement

Gainey and the hockey staff have been on the radar for quite a while on Schneider so i dont surprise me at all. It would be a great addition, especially for maintaining Markov's performance on the PP, after Streit's departure.
