If the NHL clubs were run by the people on these boards. The NHL would have died a long time ago. Ott would not give up Vermette for a old bi-polar broken down goalie and a prospect.

Montreal takes that and run, Chicago thinks and they take it too while we hang up the phone.

Montreal also looses Chipchura and a 3rd.

Basically, it's like

Fischer, Chipchura and a 3rd for Vermette, then Chipchura, the 3rd and Gerber for Khabibulin.

ottawa's really been getting ***** up the ass on this board lately. I guess its good payback, considering the amount of proposals sens fans were making earlier in the summer that CLEARLY favoured us.

It's kind of "meh" for me as a Habs fan. Vermette is good and an established player, but I do like to hope that the longterm impact of Chipchura+Fischer will be greater. Obviously more than fair value for us on market considerations alone, but I still think I'd pass. Not that I'd need to, as Ottawa will have already hung up the phone before I could get that "pass" out. But still.

True.

This proposal is closer to being decent than others, but trading within the division raises the price for Vermette even more.

Mtl gives
Fischer, Chipchura and a 3rd for Vermette a bit of an overpayment but still acceptable

Chicago gives Khabibulin. and gets Chipchura, the 3rd and Gerber ... are you serious??? With Kabibulin they'd be lucky to get Gerber alone ... or maybe him + the third but no way does that deserve Chipper

Ottawa gives Vermette and Gerber to get Khabibulin and Fisher... no way...

Not bad, but Chicago needs to give more to Ottawa to make this work (maybe a 1st?). For Montreal the value is fair, but I'd be a little bit uncomfortable trading Chipchura & Fisher before they've had a real chance at the NHL.

Wouldn't do it for the sens. The upgrade between Bulin and Gerber (which is debatable if there even is an upgrade) is no where near the extra 3 mil Bulin makes, and the assets we have to give up

Vermette is signed to an incredible contract too. This is just a horrible trade.

Anyway since Vermette has been resigned he isn't going to be traded so the whole idea is kinda dead.

I agree with Fuhr, give us Kontiola and it looks more even

But is there any possible way to trade Vermette and get Kontiola and another top 6 forward/puckmoving defenseman with him?

No it does not make more sense, we still lose by taking on the Bulin wall's salary and only getting Fischer back

Give Ottawa Kontiola

The gist of this trade is essentially Ottawa and Chicago swapping goalies and then your threw in Vermette to Montreal for the hell of it? Ottawa gives up a young established player for one year of a brutal contract which would give them cap problems, and a goalie who hasn't been good in a few years. If Ott-Chi wanted to do that deal, there really is no reason for Montreal to even be thought of. Ottawa gets older, loses offensive ability, and takes a step sideways in goaltending.

I swapped it to Chipchura. What is this obsession with Kontiola that Ottawa fans have? Obviously he is a good player but whenever a Chicago and Ottawa trade comes it it always ends up with at least one Ottawa fan asking for Kontiola.

If Kontiola is involved in that deal then it makes no sense for Chicago.

Chicago can't really give you a puckmoving d-man as all the ones they have are worth more than Vermette on their own. Chicago also can't really give a current top-6 forward either unless you want Lang or Havlat. They could give something like Kontiola + Skille/Brouwer but it would put Chicago further over the cap so it isn't really feasible either unless they can unload Lang onto someone. Montreal have been said to have an interest and if Chicago got Vermette they could let Lang go for a 3rd or something reasonable.
