What will the powerplay look like?

There's been alot of talk about various line combinations, but the area of the rangers that i find most interesting is what the poweroply will look like. I hope to see Prucha at least get some powerplay time.

My idea of the lines would be

PP1:

Dawes - Gomez - Zherdev
Redden - Drury

PP2:

Naslund - Dubinsky - Prucha
Rozsival - Staal

Unit 1:
Dubinsky - Gomez - Naslund

Rozsival - Staal

Give's Gomez total control from the half boards. Adds a big shot from the point and sticks Dubi in front of the net. Naslund plays his usual spot at the top of the circle. Staal I feel has untapped offensive ability and can slip in low on the left side for one timers; similar to what Crosby and Whitney always pull on the Pittsburgh PP.

Unit 2:
Zherdev - Drury - Dawes

Redden - Girardi

Put's our better puck moving d-man with the better group of passing players. Drury does his thing on rebounds. Redden and Girardi have big shots from the point, as well as the ability to feed the puck to the circles where Dawes and Zherdev can get their shots off.

not that bad... but at the same time it makes me sad on how void we are for top end talent.

Switch the units, Redden & Zherdev should both be on the 1st unit.

don't you think it unwise to make PP units that include a player not likely to be on the roster come opening night?

Prepare yourself. Not only will he be there. He's likely to be the captain.

pp1.could be nice...a lot of speed...

pp2- shiver me timbers....teams are really gonna be shakin' in their boots! Prucha will fall down more times than the amount of shots he has.

Naslund-Gomez-Prucha
Rozsival-Redden

Naslund has a quick release of a shot, and Gomez have great vision for the ice. Prucha can rack up points on the PP as we all know. Redden isnt much of a shooter from the point so Redden can feed the puck to either Naslund or Rozsival.

Dawes-Dubinsky-Zherdev
Girardi/Mara-Drury

Dawes has great vision like Gomez, Dubinsky can be a PF Ryan Malone type and he is a faceoff winning machine, and Zherdev can dangle anybody in the NHL, save Lidstrom. Mara/Girardi both can get off good shots on the point, but also have another good One timer specialist in Drury on the point.

why would the Rangers name a ONE year captain?

I doubt the younger players will respect a guy who is essentially taking a spot away from them....

haha so true.

We shouldn't be so worried about the PP combos, instead we shoudl worry about Renney trying new things with Jagr gone.

Last year, anytime Jagr was on the PP it was just a side-board Overload (one in corner, Jagr on middle of the boards, one D on the boards at the blue. One in front and the other D at the Point.)

To me, it wasn't that our PP Combos sucked that made our PP bad, but that our PP System sucked. The Overload is a simple PP that almost every American High School Hockey Club runs on the PP. Any quality players playing a simple diamond PK formation can break it up with ease by attacking the middle boards player (Jagr).

I'd like to see Gomez with the puck around the back of the net with a Low Umbrella Formation. We worked well in the corners last year most of the time, and I think if we contorl the puck down low, our PP could be dangerously good.

Or, because I'm confident in our point men, we could run a High Umbrella with the Center at the top of the zone. Just screw the Overload, Renney, this isn't the beer leagues.

Here we go again...alright get this through your head guys.

One of the better (possibly the best) strength of Kalinin is his shot. His shot. He scores goals.

Staal should not be on the PP yet.

Redden, Rozsival, Girardi should be a lock. The other spot should be split between Mara and Kalinin (more-so Kalinin, because I don't think Mara can even hit the net anymore).

you should also add that Redden and Rozsival will most likely be together seeing as how Rozsival is a Streit/McCabe type as a trigger man, and Redden is a PP QB.

If you're a young NHL player, and you don't respect a player like Shanahan, I don't want you on my team.

Yeah, ok. Too bad if he gets touched he falls over easier than a new born child trying to walk for the first time. And his ineffectiveness in the corners makes him virtually useless.

I've said it a 100 times, Prucha had his shot before. He will NEVER get back to his sophmore season point total in the NHL, unless he gains about 20 pounds and works on his puck control and balance.

stats speaking Prucha should definetly be on the PP, when he has gotten alot of time he has been a 20+ goal scorer but when he isnt on the PP he has been a 7 goal scorer. logically speaking, Prucha would be a good fit for the PP IMO.

no i think the younger players that are shipped to hartford so shanny can embarass himself skating up and down the ice will resent shanny more then respect him...

ok coach...

i think human nature tends to disagree with. how would you feel if your spot went to a 40 year old who looks like a 60 year old skating up and down the ice?

how is he embaressing himself. his whole entire career he has been skating as if hes in quick sand. you have to be crazy to not respect one of the greatest players to lace up a pair of skates. And you can see in the playoffs in Game 1 that shanny has MUCH, MUCH respect from younger players when him and Dawes were on the 2 on 0 with Marty on the bench, and Dawes passed it to Shanny but Shanny passed it back. But resent him? you cant be serious. im sorry but that is one of the craziest things i've heard.

That was also when the New Rules we're just being implemented and Dman weren't sure what they could get away with, so they were more passive. Now they realize to just be physical with Prucha and he isn't nearly as effective.

I'm willing to try Prucha in a new system, but he wont do jack **** in an Overload PP system.
