The Habs don't have their own 2nd round pick for the next draft, which would be needed for compensation. Can't be them...unless they make a trade to get that 2nd back from Calgary (I think it was the Flames)?
The poster on the Sens board said TB - but I think their missing a pick as well.
I'd rather go after him than Schneider for almost the same price.
Schneider's allure has more to do with contract length than amount. The hit can easily fit under Montreal's cap, and is only for one year; if he doesn't pan out, so be it. Anaheim is also in a situation where they need to move somebody, and Schneider is most likely going to be the odd man out; I don't imagine the compensation being very high.
Meszaros, on the other hand, would require a lot of compensation; a first, second, and third round pick, as well as the five+ million a season to sign him, plus the potential of losing key players next year. Some will say, "Well, pack your bags, Koivu," but he may not be the only one to leave in such a situation, either.
A TSN article says the Sens are denying the rumor and his agent has no comment so I do not think anything is signed. Also, I would not want him as a Hab at that price. If we give him that, how are we going to resign Komi and at what price?
