He was scoring a goal and being double-teamed by Coburn and Timonen... While some others played against guys like Randy Jones and were not able to take advantage of it...

Kovalev is no to blame. He won game 1 all by himself in this series.

There's no question he performed well. He's one of the team's best playoff performers. On the other hand, he's still no Messier.

In that respect, only a few guys in NHL history are in the same boat as Messier.

Kovalev is our best player, although Tanguay can challenge him for that title. I think they can both get 80+pts this year, if they are motivated... Seems Kovy is!

That part about Tanguay sure is mouthwatering. Last year, Kovalev was the undisputed ace of this team.

Hiring Tanguay sure wasn't levelling by the bottom.

No. I was also awaiting a question regarding his contract status but nothing came up.

Nah, it did.

He just said that if he wanted to leave the city, he would have done it two years ago.

I laughed when the mascot was nodding when Kovalev was talking.

Interesting guy. Whenever I listen to him, I get the feeling that being liked matters a lot to him as much as he's seemed aloof at times in his career. Athletes more often than not keep an arms length distance from the public, knowing how fast they can turn on you, but Kovy truly seems to enjoy when he's loved.

aloof means sort of distant, seeming cold. Koivu has an aloof air about him at times, as he seems a bit more reserved. I've never met the man so I'm only making an uneducated observation, but I get the impression that Kovalev enjoys celebrity more than Koivu.

I was so happy to hear him say that he's not afraid to say that we outplayed the Flyers. Thank god!

You could say the same thing about Joe Sakic or most other captains not named Mark Messier. Your relationship with the press and the cameras is alot different when you speak on behalf of the team instead of just yourself. If Kovy was captain I'm sure he'd have to change his interview habits...

I don't know about that. Kovalev was representing the team in this instance here and he did fine. I don't see how it would be any different if he were captain. He is pretty much as close to being captain of the team as you can get without actually being one.

He said he strongly feels that the young guns will carry the team this year.

Sergei, Andrei, Komi, Lats, Higgs, Oh'burn , and Maybe a Defender from Hamilton (Valentenko O_O), Gorges.

He also praised the scoring touch of Tanguay. This could be an interesting season.

Sounds like GL will be having a record breaking goals-off-ass percentage this year.

Glad Kovy has taken a positive direction with all this newly added pressure on his shoulders.

Well at some point journalist asked him if he practiced his spin-o-rama during the sumer, then he just calmly said "Gentlemens, would give me a second?" he did a spin-o-rama punch in the face of the mascot, and then every journalists were whispering "wow have you seen this spin-o-rmama! Kovy sure have improved his art during the sumer" while Kovy was doing training methods using the mascot as a carpet.

That interview was a six minute ass kissing contest by the reporters. Kovy's character and leadership abilities won't be tested unless he or the team starts slumping. He never has a problem with the media when everything is going well...who does really?

I was just suggesting that Koivu has been through the rollercoaster in MTL and handled himself professionally and like a good captain should in all his dealings with the media. Kovy's track record in that department is a little shadier. I think that if he or the team started to slump his "mentoring" and "leadership" would dry up pretty quickly, his mood would sour and he wouldn't be stepping in front of too many cameras.

Here's hoping that doesn't happen though..the team needs him to pick up where he left off last year. It does seem like he turned the corner the previous off-season but I need to see more than one year of it. I'm really hoping that Tangs can mix well with Koivu and take the scoring pressure off of Kovy. Kovalev is the type of guy who wants to steal the spotlight rather than have it thrust upon him.
