Excellent news. It would have killed me had the travesty that ended the last Avs season been Super Joe's final moments in uniform.

"Teams asked if they could at least submit an offer for consideration and Joe told me to advise teams not to bother," Baizley said.

also...

"Peter would like to play if his health will permit him. Right now he's working on his health issues related to his foot and there's nothing new on that," Baizley said. "It hasn't progressed to the point where we're in serious discussions with the team."

My God, I love these two guys. Welcome home, Super Joe.

I would assume that there is a very good chance that Stewart, Hensick, Jones, and McCormick all could make the team, which would make Arny expendable. If that happens, I would expect a trade toward the end of camp, or the first part of the year.

I am absolutely shocked.

Though that figure does surprise me a little. He's worth it, and we'd possible not use up that cap space down the stretch even with potential trades included, but I thought he'd be signed for $5.5 million. Not that it's a big deal or anything, just a little surprised. Guess no more "nostalgic Nordique day temptations" for Mats.

Sweet.

I pretty much thought it was a foregone conclusion that he was coming back. It seemed expected by anyone who covers hockey in the media.

Here is to hoping Peter can comeback for a healthy run and Budaj can be solid in net!

Avs could still fit Sundin for 5-6 million if they dump Arny. I would be all for that. Although if they had to move anyone else I'd say let Sundin walk.

Maybe best news of the summer but not really best news of the off-season though. Best off-season news was discussed in this thread.

All in all though, I love this news!
