Strangest Canadiens playoff series you remember?

Sometimes, when your team is in a playoff series, it can be a weird series with things that don't go as plan or are out of the ordinary.

I recorded the Habs/Sabres 1991 'Classic Series,' and it was a strange series, for five of the six games were high-scoring games and Roy, at times, seemed to be out of his element.

The fact that Montreal scored seven goals in one of the games coming off a season where their offense was not-so-great was very perplexing.

Can you recall any series like that?

The Roy appendicitis series against the Bruins and the last series against the Flyers was really strange. Honoroble mention to the Carolina series in 06 when the team collapsed after Koivu's eye was carved out.

Probably the one against Carolina a few years ago when we beat them twice in their rink to come home with a 2-0 series lead. Only to not win another game.

It was especially weird because we were their *****es for the entire year. Didn't beat them once and could barely score a goal against them. When Whitney (I think) scored 56 seconds into game one we all thought "here we go again". Then we destroyed them 6-1 and won that double OT game 6-5. 12 goals in 2 games was borderline miraculous for that team.

Then they made us their *****es again

It's probably cause it's still fresh in my memory, but the Carolina 06 series was really strange, and a really big piss off.

Like previously mentioned, they dominated us all regular season, I think all 4 games were blowouts. I'll never forget I had to write a 2 hour exam at 7 pm, the same time as game 1, and I sprinted across campus back to my rez to catch the end of the game, my jaw was on the floor when I turned it on and saw 5-1 Montreal.

Then game 2 was really bizarre, 3-0 lead after 1 period, then Carolina scores a couple fluke goals on 5-on-3's and off of our defencemens skates and such. Suddenly its 4-3 Carolina in the third but here comes Kovalev with this crazy shot from the goal-line to tie it up. Everybody knows the rest from game 2.

I still can't believe we lost that series, leading game 3 1-0 in the 3rd period. Carolina ties it and scores on a 5-on-3 powerplay I think in overtime. Series over basically right there.

That ********** Ribeiro was a complete ghost the entire series.

Russ Courtnall's game winner in double overtime against Frank Pietrangelo and the Whalers (1992?) was a strange clincher to that series..

Especially considering Courtnall had barely played that year and was severely underperofroming in the playoffs at the time..

And that it wasn't on a breakaway.. he basically scored cuz he was battling.

The stanley cup final in 93 where Demers called the curve on Mcsorley's stick was a strange way to turn things up.

Carolina was not strange; Ward was just too hot.

If 1989-90, 1990-91, 1991-92 NHL Playoffs could be stricken from the record books, I'd be happy.

'96 against the Rangers was really weird,

So was '02 against Carolina, when Irbe came off the bench and the "Miracle at Molson" happened in game 4

Hmmm, the 97-98 series where they took down Pittsburgh with Vigneault playing 3 defencemen against the Lemieux linewas unusual.

The following series as well where the Sabres ran Moog into retirement while the refs took the star player position and called penalties when Hasek was 30 feet out of the net and someone tried to, horrors, take the puck off his stick (or maybe the penalty was for NOT hitting him hard when he asked for it). I`m still bitter.

The cup runs had some strange ones, the 4 consecutive 4-3 wins over the sabres, the overtime streak...

The Carolina series in 06 where a mediocre player became a star because he was allowed a free high stick per game (Koivu (eye damage), Markov and possibly Rivet in consecutive games with no penalties. He scored a few because no one would cover him after that). I`m still bitter.

I`d forgotten Therien`s meltdown. That was beyond weird and the ref still won`t give Montreal a break, ever. Worth giving up a goal before the game starts to avoid having him ref a habs game.

So close to going up 3-0 and being in a conference final with Toronto.

The whole R.J. Umberger scoring all the goals combined with Biron somehow being the luckiest man on earth in last years Philly series was a strange one.
