Straigh forward player for player swap or should there be equalising factors?
To Montreal:
Jordan Staal
To Pittsburgh:
Andrei Kastitsyn
Why would Montreal do this?
- They get their big center to lead their 1st line for years to come
- After acquiring Tanguay, Habs currently have good debth on the wings with Kovalev, Taguay and S.Kastitsyn capable to play on RW and A.Kastitsyn, Tanguay, Higgins and Latendresse capable to play LW (I know Tanguay is listed twice), wit Pacioretty and D'Agostini trying to earn their spots on the big team, making it possible for Habs to deal a winger for upgrade in weaker area
Why would Montreal not do this?
- A.Kost managed to score 26 goals last season, he is late bloomer, but could become really good (40 goals and/or ppg player)
- Montreal just signed Kastitsyn to extension
Why would Pittsburgh do this?
- They would get sniper winger to play alongside Crosby
- A.Kost is signed for three years at 3.250 per. At worst the contract will be reasonable (if last season was Kostitsyn plateau)
Why would Pittsburgh not do this?
- They have reason to believe that Staal could be signed for cheap (less than 4,0 per) as 3rd line defensive center
- They believe they could get better package elsewhere (Is there really team in need of center that could give at least good winger in return?)
Flame away!
jordan staal's 1rst line potential is still a big question mark at this point.
montreal has good chemistry, I doubt the 1rst line changes.
why would pens trade staal when they can sign him cheaper as a 3rd line center? His defensive upside is gold for pens, mostly because they already have a very offensive minded team.
since when a 23 year old that played his first complete season in mtl ( racking up 26 goals) is a late bloomer? I don't know many players that have recorded over 25 goals in their first year in the nhl lately. 23 years old is young for that kind of performance too.
Technically there's nothing wrong with saying Kastitsyn (or Kastsitsyn), it's what he used when he first came to North America and I believe it's closer to the actual prononciation of his name (but somebody who speaks the language can jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong).
Even last year I think he was still listed as Kastsitsyn on the NHL.com stats/scoresheets.

As a Montreal fan id rather keep AK. There is no need for the Pens to do this though. And Staal should have more value than Andrei. But with Koivu-Plekanec-Chipchura-Lapierre, we arent in much of a need for Staal as of now and there would be a big winger spot open.

its a pass for both teams....
When Jordan Staal is in this trade...probably not the best thing to say lol. He was 19 when he put up over 25 in his rookie year.
A lot more needed for Staal. If you don't like it, quit making trade proposals. Pens aren't forced to make a move whatsoever so a severe overpayment would have to happen.
Pittsburgh says no. Unless we are getting a huge cap friendly overpayment Staal is staying a Penguin for now. He wont get traded for a downgrade offensivly, and a major downgrade defensivly.
