#33 to be retired in November 2008?

Today in La Presse, there is an article that mentions Patrick Roy's number might be retired as soon as this November.
If it's the case, I guess Saturday November 22 vs Boston might be the date.

Really? Hard to believe, given how Roy left the organization. Does he hold any grudges against the club today? Or is everything good between Roy and the Habs?

he does deserve to have his number up there. His rift with the organization is long gone and out of date since that management and ownership is long gone.

If they are going to nominate him, I just hope patrick keeps his nose clean this year. The guy seems like a ticking time bomb at the best of times... you dont want something negative to overshadow the potential festivities.

In sum Patrick Roy was a winner. His actions on and off the ice are night and day, as people close to him always said that he was a shadow of himself when there wasnt a game on the line.

Yes he didnt leave properly, but the management staff at that time was a complete joke.
Guy Lafleur has had just as much troubles outside of the Canadiens. And even with them. Should we take the banner down?

I am excited and will be going to that game nomatter what.

Ron Fournier's antics and bs aside, Butch Bouchard's number should go up this season before the old man leaves us for good. He'd be a no brainer for most organiztion. Do it already.

I think the surest way to be excluded is to have someone lobby on your behalf. I know that different regimes have presided over these things but they seem to react with a lot of indignation to any suggestions as to what they should do. Not Butch's fault though.

I'd like to know how elite a player he was considered as ? I know my Dad thinks the world of him, tells stories about him, but they're more about the guy than the player.

I disagree, Patrick's tirade cost this franchise years of futility as Houle was forced to trade him. Of course this is not completely Patrick's fault, but I would not put #33 in the rafters next to the class and grace of #4.

What sets this franchise aparts from all other is not only the success it has had, but the way it has won those 24 cups.

I am old school, if you put yourself before the team, no way in hell do you deserve that honor!

There is a special event on tuesday 11/11 before the Habs play Ottawa.
The game is at 1900 vs 1930 and televised on RDS & TSN.

Just don't know yet if it's retirement of the #33 jersey.

I don't think the organization would want to overshadow Remembrance Day with a jersey retirement.

I think they should make Roy wait as long as Robinson did to get his number retired.

I honestly don't think they should ever retire his number, but I do understand the arguement made by those who think it should. History to date has increased Roy legend stauts (with the habs), imo. If the day after Roy was traded to Colorado, I would if you polled hab fans, how many of them would of said they felt Roy's # should be retired.

I think they should make the ceremony like they did for the others. Pick the date equivalant to his jersey number. That way, Patrick can have his jersey retired on November 33rd.

You might just do the same thing with Messier or Gretzky... not many, but people were emotional...

this is not a good example at all, IMO

common, the day he was traded!

They want to stop retiring numbers after this season so, I much as I hate him as a Sags fan, I should be the first to say it shouldn't be retired.

Admit it or not, if we are going to go for long time without retiring another, he deserve it. Retired numbers are not about off ice events at all.

The article states November 22nd (22-11).

EDIT: How ironic if we traded for Mathieu Schneider...

I think he should have his number retired since it's for his accomplishments on the ice not off.

Can't say I agree with this.

Jersey retirements are for those players who best represented the team, whether they be on the ice or off it. When Roy went on his little tirade he decided he was bigger than the team and I see no reason why they should now honour him for it.

When he said "[this is] my last game in Montreal," that should have been it. He made the decision right there that he wanted nothing to do with the organization, and thus he forsakes any future benefits from being associated with them.

Of course, that's not how it's going to work. He will get his number retired this year, and it will make many fans happy. And good for them. It's nice to see your idols receive such a high honour.

I just won't be tuning in for that ceremony.
