After Neil Smith was GM...

I thought that everyone would soon wear a Rangers uniform.

The Rangers are like the Yankees..sooner or later, every player is either rumored or does become part of the team.

Lindros was one that I never thought.

Yeah, I had forgotten about Esposito. He used to carp when he was a Bruin about his hatred for the Rangers- this was back in the days when there was a palpable rivalry between the orig 6'ers.

I remember being shell shocked at the time, but Espo turned out to be a charismatic leader for us, taking us deep into the playoffs. I have some great childhood memories of watching them in the playoffs from high up in the blues with guys smoking stogies all around us.

Then he becomes the farcical GM, and at one point tried to build a contender around Walt Poddubny. Trader Phil, I think they called him. Dark days.

To be fair, at the time, the belief around the league was the Lundmark had a higher ceiling. I think he was still in Juniors at the time the trade came up.

So that's why the Rags avoid winning the cup! A Stanley Cup champ is a loser...

Oh no doubt, but its not fair to be mad at Smith for a trade that didn't look like the steal it would have been now. On the other hand I don't think anyone other than Smith thought it was outrageous to include Malhotra in the Bure deal.
