Our Shoot-out team

So, I saw this on the habs board and was thinking what our shoot-out team would look like

Henrik Lundquist is a beast in the shootout because he can move from left to right so quick, it forces the other player to lift the puck every time.

Who will be our top 5, in order, shootout players? AND What other teams in the east have better shootout squads. P.S - take goaltending into account as well...

1.Dawes? - He was great last year with his quick release and pin-point shot.
2-5 I have no idea.

Zherdev has to be there with his stick handling ability. Maybe Naslund too with his wrist shot.

Gomez is 2nd best over dawes? Since when do playmakers take shootouts . but really, I if you flipped Dawes and Gomez around, it would be somewhat to what I think would be our top 5.

Not a fan of Dubi in the shootout, he seemed overwhelmed when he did it last year... I would put Prucha in there because he's had success there before. Nazzy could also be a consideration.

you probably dont want gomez in top 3, he has 1 move, skate straight in on the goalie, fake like hes going to do something, let the puck slide off his stick to the goalies 5 hole

Why does everyone put zherdev first? you know its not a contest on who goes first.

same goes for people saying "why gomez over dawes" its only a list of order it dosen't mean whos the best choice geez.

1: SHANAHAN , yeah i went there
2: Dawes
3: Zherdev
4: Naslund
5: Prucha.

3. Naslund
4. Prucha
5. Gomez

I would keep Drury off the list. He has not had much success in the shootouts. I wonder if he would be better off winding up and letting one rip ala Brian Rolston.

Well Zherdev is pretty much money in the shootout, last years numbers:

Zherdev - 5 for 8 last season (63%) - 4th best % in the league among players who took at least 7 shots in the shootout, 50 players total)
Dawes - 5 for 9 last season (57%)
Gomez - 2 for 4 last season (50%)
Prucha - 1 for 4 last season (25%)
Naslund - 1 for 5 last season (20%)
Drury - 0 for 5 last season (0%)

Rissmiller, Dubi, Rosy and Cally all went 0 for 1
Sjostrom was 1 for 2.

That's exactly what he does, and it worked half of the time. The people screaming about Gomez being included clearly didn't pay attention last year. As the stats show, he scored half the time.

Zherdev, Dawes, and Gomez should be locks for it every time. After that it will probably be combinations of Sjostrom, Drury, and Redden.

From what I can see, we'll have Zherdev, Dawes and then a rotating cast of forwards for #3.

If it goes beyond three, Renney will be flipping coins behind the bench.

Some playmakers strive in the shootout, like Jussi Jokinen.

A breakaway situation is about making the right decision as much as it is of having a good shot. Playmakers get to practice their decision making in play all the time.
