No cap casualty, making Shanahan a cheaper replacement. Not that I would do it, Kunitz adds a much needed speed and forechecking pressence the ducks need.

I like How Devil fans talk as if they know whats going on. as if they know all about the Rangers and there players...

Shanny has stated that he would take a pay cut for the rangers, and that he is not going to move his family from NYC, and his kids will enroll in a private school in manhattan. yet Devil Fans know all

If they lost Marchant and Schneider's salaries, they'd have about 6M to spend (assuming the owner lets them spend to the max and have no wiggle room).

Thing is, both Shanny and Teemu could be offered small base deals with bonuses that carry over until next year when the Ducks have a lot of guys UFA they could let walk.

False. Cant happen all bonuses are coverd for THIS year. if they were carried over next year, the Rangers would've signed Shanny by now.

Would it make sense to package Kunitz with Schneider together? Would anybody take on that much salary?

It wouln't make sense to package Kunitz with anyone, he is our only legitimate top 6 left winger.

That's about 9 million....

LA, ATL, PHO, NYI, NAS, and CLB are the only teams who can afford them both (I think)

Too bad Marchant has a NTC or else he's a goner by now already.

Since Marchant is from Buffalo NY, maybe Burke should try and convince Marchant to waive his NTC and move him to an eastern team so that he can be closer to home. Getting rid of Marchant makes things alot more easier for the Ducks imo.

doubt it. Shanny said if he joins a team other than the Rangers it'd be a contender and thats where Anaheim fits in. But i dont think Shanny will be looking for another team til, Sather says "Sorry Brendan but we've had a great 2 years with you"

I wouldn't look into this to much. Personally I think this might have been a backup plan in case Selanne doesn't return. Well now that it's pretty much known he's coming back I'd say the Ducks roster is pretty set on forwards. I mean really where does he fit in this lineup?

R.Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Kunitz-Morrison-Selanne
Moen-Pahlsson-R.Niedermayer
May/Parros-Carter-Sutherby

He's got a pretty broad definition of the word "contender", then.

you dont think Anaheim is a contender?

edit: if your talking about the rangers then i agree with you, but i feel it has more to do with compfort than contension for shanny in NY, as he is beloved by everyone and may/will be the captain if he gets signed.

gotta call ******** on this

they are over the cap by 3mill before selanne signs

Shanny--they would have to shed 10mill in contracts

I would take Shanny on the Devils, for sure.

Parise - Elias - Rolston
Shanahan - Zajac - Gionta
Pandolfo - Madden - Langenbrunner
Zubrus - Holik - Clarkson

Awesome forward depth, terrible defence however.

He is definitely not a 2nd line player anymore.

Those are more like depth lines, than actual proposed lines. Our three best offensive players aren't likely to play on the same line.

I'm sure Shanahan could play on a line with Zajac and Langenbrunner though. A slower paced, power scoring line role.

This is probably why he would suit Anaheim too.

I dont think Shanny fits the Rangers skating system well at all.

What I learned from this thread:

NYC is the only place in the universe that has private schools.

Can't see Shanahan signing for the league minimum, even if bonuses were not included. Trading Kunitz to make room for Shanahan is ridiculous even for Burke.

Add Vancouver to that list.
