Sorry if there's a post on this already, but this news was so overwhelming I had to post it immediately.

Shannon, we hardly knew ye.

If this is true then the Moose are going to have an amazing year with Krog who is the premier AHL player and Nycholat who was top 3 in defence scoring last season in the AHL.

Nycholat is a huge addition for the Moose. They were looking pretty crowded in scoring line forwards but having a couple of strong puck movers in Nycholat and Baumgartner should do wonders for their offense.

Nycholat was moved further down the Senators' depth chart with the swap of Meszaros for two defensemen.

Sundin's decision should be easy now with Shannon gone and that big hole at center for Vancouver just created

If this is true, remember he's on a one-way contract.

will have to change the thread title then so it's not misleading... if it's an official trade, you need to post a link from a reputable source.

Hmm, if that's the case, unless they're willing to pay him his big league salary on the farm the Canucks are looking at 8 defensemen on one-way contracts. I wonder if this a precursor to something else.

Wasn't Nycholat pencilled in as Ottawa's #7 before the Meszaros trade?

yeah...I think this is a pre-cusor for a bigger move with one of our dmen. Nycholat will be our 6th/7th dman next season.

Looks like Gillis has moved on from Sundin.

yoink, can this guy play in the NHL?

he's 28 and has been a pro for over a decade, with only 4 NHL games on his resume...

Nothing against Shannon, but I'm glad to see that we'll be moving on wrt to him. He just didn't fit in well with the rest of our top six forwards.

Which sucks, as I think he'll do alright for himself. But what can you do?

Yeah, he seemed like a good kid in interviews and he was a pleasant surprise coming out of last season.

On a team like Ottawa he may do well if he has a chance to play with a guy like Mike Fisher, with his speed and ability to forecheck.

a questionable 7th at best, I don't think he'll ever break into the NHL full time. More of a cup of coffee type of guy, but should work well in Manitoba.

I'm assuming Shannon is also an AHL'er?

This could either be a move for defensive depth on the Moose...or it could be a replacement for Lukas Krajicek.

Borderline NHLer. He's either top six or bust...too small and defensively irresponsible to work on the bottom six. He could work wonders with Fisher, Spezza and Heatley. I'd be optimistic about him.

For what it' worth, this note on TSN suggests that Ottawa was expecting Nycholat to make the big club this season:

The rest of the vacancies remaining on the club will need to be filled by players already in the Senators organization, like rookie defenceman Brian Lee and Lawrence Nycholat, both of whom are expected to log considerable minutes in making the blueline more mobile than last season.
