LOL, the pic that TSN is using to go with the story is nice especially when you read the story heading while looking at the pic.....I expected there to be floppy empty pockets coming out his gear.

They prefer finger at 3.5 over McCabe at 5.75???? That I don't understand.

You have it wrong OP; it's Toronto who's giving away a pick.

Surprised Toronto would throw in a pick...

Reminds me of the Ribeiro trade. Once a player is ripped enough by management, fans, and the media it is hard to make a good deal. I expect McCabe will look a lot better this year.

It seems Fletcher doesn't mind trading picks which is weird for a rebuilding club. Maybe we can ask for a 5th rounder for Dandeneault

If he doesn't sign here, I think it's very obvious he doesn't give two ***** about a Stanley Cup. I've said for years Mats doesn't care about the cup, we are pretty close to finding out.

There isn't one hockey player in the NHL that doesn't care about winning the cup.
Unless for the ones that won the cup already, I don't see how a player could compete at such a high level without wanting to Win.

Some want it more than others, some think about other stuff and have more important priorities that winning the trophy.
But every single player wants to win.

Sundin might not sign here, but he never jumped on the VAN offer, so he doesn't care much about the money either. The man is simply getting old and isn't sure about what he wants.

If he cared, he'd have waived his NTC to go a contending team at the deadline. He could have came here, Detroit was in the running for him as well. Instead he chose to rott in Toronto. Ray Bourque, loyal Bruin, had enough of the mediocrety and wanted to win a cup and demanded a trade. He cared, it doesn't seem Mats cares or ever cared all that much.

this trade is actually a good move from martin in my opinion.

mccabe needed a new start, and his cap hit has taken a drop to 4.35 I think, which isn't THAT bad for a top 4 dmen who we know is a capable man on the pp.

Huge overpayment. Florida gets McCabe +4th for 800K more than Van Ryn. I read this as A) no market for McCabe, B) Fletcher likes Van Ryn, C) payback for Kilger.

That's how much Florida will have to pay him. But his cap hit remains the same (5.75mil per)

it was mentioned that was included because of the Kilger fiasco.

Are you sure about that?
He did refused to play in the playoff last year, getting married and all
I'm not sure about how I feel for Sundin.

Agreed. He would be a real key player on a team that is already decent in the defensive zone.

I'd love him alongside Hamrlik. I wouldn't touch his contract, esp. the length, but purely hockey ? If I'd take Scheider, well I'd rather McCabe. He has flaws but who doesn't ?
