Jussi Jokinen

What do you think it would take to make him a Leaf? I really like this guy since I first saw him and is awesome in shootouts, which could really help Toronto, since they struggle in them. I don't know THAT much about him but Tampa could use 1 or 2 more d-men and Toronto can afford to lose them.

What would it take?

Jussi is a very streaky player..He has very limited moves when i comes to shootouts...His 2 moves that he has has been figured out by most of the goalies. He is at best a 3rd line guy...i would say possibly a high 2nd pick or low 3rd.

From a TO - TB standpoint, Jokinen could grab the likes of Ian White, nothing more, nothing less.

I don't see Tampa keeping him,,,i can see a team that is looking to establish themselves as possible contenders....teams like Atlanta and LA come to mind.

If by "contenders" you mean for the 1st overall in 2009, then yes.

Personally, I don't see a spot on the leafs for him. Who will he beat out? Steen, Poni, Hagman? I dunno, I think we have his spot covered.

They will keep him until the injury woes are over, and trade him for a fringe defenseman and a 4th/5th rounder.

Krajicek has more upside, IMO.

Jokinen hasn't proved to be worth more than White, so I'm not sure where you derived that notion.

The Leafs don't need Jokinen. All they need is someone to hog-tie Fletcher for the rest of the off-season so he can't screw this team up anymore before training camp.

What has Ian White done to be comparable in any way to Jussi Jokinen? Break the 20 point plateau?

The fact that he can't even crack Toronto's top six should tell you that your logic is off on this one.

Well Technically, White has, for all intents and purposes cracked Torontos top 6 since he did last year, and we have no idea what the top 6 is gonna look like this year

1. Unless TML is leaking something to you that the rest of us don't know, then your supposed "facts" are just baseless assumptions at this point.

2. Comparing point totals between a winger and a defenseman is not only wrong, it shows just how little you know about each position. Jussi's shootout ability was his only competitive advantage (take note Modo, you can compare wingers and d-men in this category without looking stupid). Notice how I said "was" -- goalies have been catching on to his moves, so this is now moot.

White's ceiling is #4 offensive d-man, 2nd or 1st unit PP specialist (40 pt max). Jokinen's potential is 2nd line LW, offensive playmaker (60 pt max). These projections would give them similar potential ratings, based on their position.

Honestly, I wasn't sad to see any piece go in the Richards deal, Smith is a great prospect but Jokinen is soft and useless most of the time. I don't know if he got worse or if he just needed to be on our first line to thrive, but he wasn't much good to the Stars. Getting Richards is the most useful thing he's ever done for us IMO.

For his SO prowess alone he is worth something to a lot of teams. Even having one player that is proficient in the SO on a nightly basis would pay huge dividends for certain teams that suck at it right now.

Besides that though, I'm not sure how much value he actually has.

If they would've been desperate to improve in the shootout, it's weird that they didn't even try to sign Pesonen before the pens did. With his results on the breakaway being better in the same league as Jussi Jokinen, they would've probably given a goal scorer with great wrists a shot...

Newsflash: Burke hates Euros!!

Ok but seriouslly, I atleast was surprised he wasn't given atleast a look in camp and a chance to earn a top 6 winger spot. But, now that I look at, there is really no room for him unless he is gonna play on the bottom line, which i doubt he would want to.

So there is really no chance the Ducks would go after Jokinen either. He can play alright on a checkingline, but is at his best with players who have some offensive talent.

And hating euros is not a good thing if you want to win in the shootout

Florida will give Tampa K. Skrastins for J. Jokinen. With aqcuiring McCabe Skrastins could be expendable for us to pick up some scoring help. Tampa needs an experienced defensman to help that very very young d-core they currently have. Win-win deal I think.
