Not much good you can say about Isbister's season with the Canucks. That was the best shot he'll ever have to be the player people thought he could be. I'd be surprised if he ever plays in Ottawa, and if he gets a game or two he'll play sparingly.

I can actually see Bryan Murray signing even more fringe NHL'ers over the next little while. Kevin Lee actually posted an article a while ago about the state of affairs with Binghamton and that things were in need of a major shakeup. (possibly a coaching change in the near future)

I think all of these signings are meant to light a bit of a fire under some of the prospects at the AHL level and create some level of competition. I doubt it has much bearing on the NHL club.

After Izzy suffered two consecutive long-term injuries with the Isles he came back a different player. Perhaps physically he lost something, or perhaps it was (still is) all mental (e.g. playing apprehensively as to avoid injury).

He had two consecutive 20+ goal seasons in only about 60 games of action as a 21/22 yr old. Puzzling, isn't it?!

Isbister gets a bad rap. It's a two-way deal. Nothing to lose for Ottawa.

I like the signing only for the fact that our rookies know that if they **** up bad then someone will replace them. It's not amazing but they shouldn't take things easy once there in the line-up and will work much harder just for the fact that they can stay on the team.

I doubt we'll play Isbister much...

Man ... how many chances is this guy going to get.

Isbister is not NHL material. Just no acceleration and way too awkward.

Gave it a go with the Canucks but just couldn't cut it. Will make a decent play every 5 or 6 games which teases you. But then quickly slides back into getting nothing accomplished.

If he makes the Sens you got big problems.

Solid signing by the Sens. Isbister can't be worse than McGrattan so he should take his spot.

I thought Isbister performed admirably for the Canucks last season - some games, with him Burrows, Kesler, Linden, Shannon or Raymond - saw some potential, but at the stage in his career, he's not going to really make it.

lol, wat?

Isbister and Pyatt were a fairly strong tandem for stretches at a time. He also got benched a bit in favor of those 2 IIRC.

Actually, he had one decent/great game against Dallas when he first got to Edmonton; I think it may have even been a Gordie Howe hat trick. Unfortunately, that was just a tease, and he never lived up to his size.

Isbister did pretty well on the penalty kill for Vancouver and he was using his size more and more as the season progressed. I feel that he will do pretty well in Ottawa actually, I think it's a great fit.
