Awards:
Take it with a grain of salt.

Right out of Burke's mouth? Is that really a legit source?

If that quote is indeed true, which is suspect...

"Brendan is staying in New York" doesnt necessarily mean he's resigning with the Rangers. There are few other teams in the area mind you and theyve all stated interest.

Don't take this with just a grain of salt, take it with the whole shaker.

It could also be Burke prioritizing. He needs to sign Selanne, bring him back. Shanny might not be his interest at the moment, hence saying something like "he's staying in New York," to end any rumors or questions about him going to the Ducks.

Informal skating is hardly an indicator of a deal being in place..

And as for Burke's comments, what if it's not inside info, but just based on the reports coming from Dellapina/Brooks last month about Shanny's desire to stay here?

Yea, but with camp less then a week away it means a lot more then an informal skating in the middle of August.

Same old questions:

Where does he play and the flip side who sits/gets sent down as a result?
Can he fit under the cap?

Maybe he'll play on a line with Nedved.

I've been a vocal anti-Shanahan guy, but if he is indeed brought back to play a limited role (4th line, PP) for a cheap price I am all about it. There is no reason to dress Colton Orr every night, and Shanny can rest during games when an enforcer is needed.

Except Renney most likely will not do that...

Chances are, he's in the same boat as Nedved. He's brought in to be a warm body for camp scrimmages and as a bit of a goodwill measure. Even he doesn't make the team, he's in shape and shown what he's got, maybe that makes him attractive to one of 29 other teams.

Unlike Nedved, he probably does have a chance to win a spot with the Rangers. If someone like Prucha has a dismal camp while Shanny looks great, you have the option send Prucha to Hartford, clear his cap hit and sign Shanny before preseason.

Renney cannot help himself. If Shanahan is signed, Renney will overplay him and they may as well trade Prucha.

yes, the danger is him getting 2nd line minutes and playing PK as well as PP

If he got bottom six minutes and mainly played on the PP, it wouldn't be too bad

Well he sure cant be the Captain of the NY Rangers if he isnt signed.

I guess he has to prove himself fit and hungry. I still believe he will wear the C on opening night.
