HF Rivalry amongst NY fans *Teams on post #1

Disclaimer: This only applies to those who play the game

I came up with an idea...Hear me out:

Call me crazy but...

I was very curious if anyone would be at all interested in some "friendly" games amongst our rival fans of the Devils and Islanders on this board. I could get the ice time at a discounted rate depending on how many players show up.

A fee would apply to each player to pay for the ice. Goalies as usual...are hard to come by and would play at a discounted rate.

Call it the Tri State HF Tournament, call it what you want.

BUT...here's the problem...How do we decide who gets eliminated?

Teams would consist of HF Rangers, HF Isles, HF Devils & HF__________ ?? We would need another team to even out the playing field. I dunno if the Philly Flyer fans are willing to take a trip down to nyc for some "friendly" beer league tournament.

If we could get another team we could work out a 2 day round robin tourney.

Or should we just make it Rangers-Isles or Rangers/Devils. 1 game, bragging rights?

I am looking for everyone's input here as well because this is very doable with my connections; say, on a Holiday weekend. A trophy would be awarded to the winning team. The dates, how many games etc is still undetermined as this is just an idea.

It would be very, very fun and open to players of all levels. It's also a great way of meeting your fellow HF posters here on this forum. We're not playing for the friggin Stanley Cup but bragging rights are definitely on the table.

This is taking the rivalry we have here in NY/NJ to a whole new level.

Contact or non contact? I don't think anyone here can risk an injury to their everyday work/school schedules, so the answer to that would be non contact.

Unfortunately, Hockey is a contact sport so keep your head up!

This idea just popped in my head out of nowhere and it's 5 am lol. So...what do you guys think??

I would like to fine tune the idea with my new teammates before bringin it up with the fans of the other teams. I'm sure there's a few here that would be down for this and I know hockey is real big and competetive on the Island.

Could be alot more fun than you think...

I would definitely be down. Your connection is at Chelsea Piers right? I would suggest just trying to schedule two separate games - NYR/NYI and NYR/NJD. I'm assuming you'd be able to get the ice on different days if necessary? Say play one game in November and the other in December, or something along those lines?

That could definitely work. Yes at Chelsea.

Let's see who else we could get. The winter is definitely the time I'm looking for as I still have some rehab to take care of.

The last time I skated was right before my on the job injury. That was almost 2 years ago.

Anyone else down?

I'll keep you guys on the list so I remember who to contact:

I'm going to start inviting players from the other teams to place they're name's here to see if we can get enough players. I think we will fill in nicely, but it will take a while for everyone to see this.

Lets get it on...

Hi, I think this is a great idea.

I'd definitely be down with playing for the HF Isles
or the HF 'Misfits' if the HF Isles fill up.

I play pretty regularly these days in the Nassau county 'beer' leagues;
so just let me know when/if things solidify for this.

Awesome. I knew I was onto something...So far everyone seems to think it's a great idea.

My friend (also a goalie) now writes about hockey and his boss is none other than Stan Fischler. He just gave me the news and said he would be conducting an interview with Henrik in his apartment sometime this month.

I may just have to try to slip him a plug for Hockey night in NY. Hehe That would be frickin awesome!

Everyone would pay a fee and it goes towards paying for the ice rental. If we have a decent roster on both ends, obviously it will be cheaper.

It will be evenly divided.

Adding you to the Rangers roster. Let's Go boys

I'm going to talk to someone and see what I can do for official uniforms. It would only add to the excitement of playing for your favorite team, and the colors u represent.

Be patient guys. This is not going to happen overnight.

Thanks!

No one on the Devils board seems interested. I may just have to delete that Thread and keep this Rangers VS Isles.

This could end up being an annual thing, who knows. But I won't get too ahead of myself

Smoot, although I live about 4 1/2 hours from there, I do know the area and what not. Have been to Chelsae a few times. This is something I may potentially be interested in, as long as there was a heads up so I could coordinate taking the days off etc etc. It would be well worth the drive for me to come down and rep the HF Rangers, and if all went well I would be all about catching a Rangers game that day or day after. But for now tentatively put me down as a yes.

Pos: Center or D

Sweet. I'm definitely down to catch a game!

We're going to need a decent amount of D and forwards. So everyone start listing what position you play.

Thank you

I can play whatever position you need me at most (except goalie), but I consider myself to be a natural LW.

Awesome idea sounds like it could be loads of fun. Looks like you guys need a center wish I could help, but given the fact I live in MT i'd need to be flown in . Can't wait to see who prevails.

Rangers and Isles:

Any good goalies in the house?? If not I can recruit as a last resort but would rather it be someone from here.

Hows a 10 hour train ride for 125 bucks sound?

You can put me down as a Center, as it's my natural position.

But I've played all three forward positions for about 12 years.
And about 8 years dedicated as a defensemen before then.
When I first started I played one year as a goalie and quickly
realized just how crazy you'd have to be...

Man I'm getting old.

At least I can still skate like the wind though.
