Will Kostopoulos be re-signed?

I know a lot of people might not care, but I like Kostopoulos a lot, his character and he's a useful player, but do you guys think he'll be re-signed after this season, or let go?

IMO, he'll be let go, but he will still have an outside chance of being re-signed. A lot will depend on who'll be back with the team, and which kid will be on the verge of the NHL.

I'm a huge Kostopolous fan... but there are a number of factors to consider.

How much does he want??
How have our AHL guys Wyman, D'ago, Stewart, Trotter, and others progressed??
What else is available??

i don't think that he will be re- signed . IMO , Habs management will give the spot to one of their prospect .

The real question becomes Begin or Kostopoulos

Its way too early to tell.
There's also so many contracts that will come to an end next season that we simply don't know.
Koivu-Tanguay-Kovalev-Komi-Plek-Higgins-Lats-Bouillon are all entering their last year. They're all going to be resigned or dealt with before Kosto and Begin.

I dont think its easy cause id say Begin is more intense..but then again that might just be the problem. IE: The penalty against Boston.

He's a good 4th liner, I'd keep him.

I don't know if he'll be re-signed, but I'd re-sign him over Begin and Dandenault. Unless we have a 4th liner waiting in Hamilton that could fill the spot, but I doubt any of them comes close to Kosto in terms of combined hockey sense, pugilist and forechecker.

Gaineys teams usually have a veteran in the bottom 6, and I think Laraque wont count because he provides something unique being one of the toughest fighters in the league, so I don't think it's as sure of a thing he won't be resigned. The prospect people assume would take over for him would have to replace more than just his play on the ice, Kostopolous is a character presence in the locker-room and loved by his teammates, it's a bigger spot to plug a rookie into more than most people would think. I'm not saying the team wouldn't survive without him, but I think his overall role on the team is taken for granted by a lot of fans.

There's no way that after next season there'l still be room for Kostopoulos, when the Habs find that 3rd offensive center our 3 best 4th liners end being Chipchura, Lappierre and Laraque, do you see any of those 3 in the stands for Kosto? i don't think so, and that's not to mention players like Stewart and White will probably be knocking on the door by the end of this season bottom 6 jobs. Bégin, Kosto and Dandeault, that's 3 players that are, imo, pulling us back

He'll be re-signed to take over Begin's spot as a spare forward.

If he accepts that he might only play 60 games as a 12th/13th forward I would definitely re-sign him. The only problem is he is still decently young and can definitely be an every day player on many teams in the league.

I was thinking that with my post, it's a tough decision, but Begin has been so banged up the last few years that I give a slight nod to TK, I think loosing both of them at once would be critical, I mean look at how well both of them performed in the playoffs, one needs to stay for another couple of years IMO. They both are warriors in the context of what they bring, you can't undervalue those type of things. Someone should start a poll.

Begin is not necessarily more intense, I think they're about equal.
Difference is, Kosto never shied away from fighting. He also is in much better health.

Habs need to make room for Stewart and D'Agostini sooner than later . You also have Aubin , O.Latendresse and probably Maxpac , that could be ready next year .

It was said that there aren't really much room to add a prospect this season ( maybe one of D'Agostini or Stewart ) . I suppose that the Habs will need to add 2-3 players the next season , or they will loose them to the waive .

I have a feeling that two of Chipchura, D'agostini, Stewart, Max Pac, maybe even a surprise like Maxwell, White, Wyman ,Trotter will replace both Begin and Kostopoulos. Let's face it we better keep the likes of Tanguay, Kovalev, Komisarek arguably Koivu over Begin, Kostopoulos, Dandenault, Bouillon.

I would be very surprised if O.Latendresse ever made the NHL.

Kosto was one of our best players in the playoffs so i would keep him, his grit is a big asset and he's fairly cheap.

Maybe he will want a bigger role on another team so it will be up to him i guess.

I'd wayyyyy rather Begin then Kostopoulos. Neither has an offensive came to speak of, but Begin is a far better checker and is fearless on the pk blocking shots. A true warrior and an asset to any team that wants to contend for the cup.

Considering Kostopoulos can have 1 million + on the market and the key UFA next year, Bob will save money for Koivu Kovalev and Cie. But if he accept the same salary, i'm all for it.
