Leafs add four to personnel

Cliff Fletcher, General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the team has named Corey Hirsch as goaltending coach and Graeme Townshend as skating coach. Dennis Bonvie and Tom Watt have also been added as pro scouts under the direction of Mike Penny, the Leafs' Director of Pro Scouting.

Is the idea of a team hiring a goalie coach to get someone who was actually worth a damn?

At least Hirsch knows something about playing the position.

I'm scratching my head more over Bonvie being a scout. What's he going to scout, enforcers? I like the guy but I don't know how much I'd trust his scouting.

Good for Bonvie. Truly a nice guy. Good to see him get a job after hockey.

Dennis Bonvie? Good god. That's almost as bad as Delorme getting a job as a scout, let alone a head scout.

Actually, they make a decent living after hockey scouting. He isn't the first and won't be the last.

A Jamaican born skating coach, awesome! This team and city is very multi-cultural.

Hiring Corey Hirsch as a goalie coach is like hiring Pamela Anderson to be a good role model for your daughter.

Better than getting him as a Skate coach

david conte wasn't much of a player either.

many of the leagues top scouts were mediocre hockey players but very bright off the ice. many hall of famers would fail miserably in a scotuing position.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing...obviously, I don't know what he knows about scouting, but I wouldn't picture Bonvie being a scout if a list of choices were laid out in front of me...

Can just about any former professional player be a pro scout more or less? Or did Bonvie impress them by dropping some knowledge?

Anyone want to explain how this is a trade rumor or free agent talk?

Bonvie is exactly the type of guy you want for a scout. He's played so long in the minors, he's seen first hand the traits that get prospects to the NHL... and the defects that hold them back. Why does Antoine Vermette become a quality NHL player but John Slaney just can't seem to break through? Bonvie would be the guy whose opinion I'd want.
