Did you watched him or what? He don't look like a 40 years old vet at all!!! Come one!!! Sure he's not at the top of his game, but he's not done either. If anything, I think he needs to understand the situation he's in, and change his way of playing the game. It's obvious that he's not a #1 anymore, but he still can play good hockey. He needs to put less pressure on his shoulders because for once, their other players to take more heat on the ice...
I really hope Saku is able to accept a Modano-like role on the team in 2-3 years.
With all respect due to Koivu, he already looks like a 40 years old vet, we can speculate as long as we want on the reasons but signing him more than 1 year would be a mistake..
Chelios is 46 and hes still around.
How many 40 year olds put 9 points in 7 playoff games? Thats where we need him.
Sign Koivu at 2 years /8 millions
Sign Higgins at 5 years/ 16 millions
Sign Plekanek at 5 years 20 millions
Sign Tanguay at 4 years/ 20 millions
Sign Komisarek at 5 years/ 22 millions
Sign Kovalev at 2 years/ 10 millions
Bouillon...
Dandenault....
Kostopoulos...
Begin...
IMO , we should offer bouillon a 1 year, 1m contract.... keep him until komi is resigned / valetenko earns permanent call up.
Again, while I think any "predictions" right now are nothing more than shots in the dark as so much will change over the course of the season, assuming everyone's production is similar to last year's, I feel that most people's numbers here are unrealistically low.
IMO:
Koivu - 2 years, $9.5M ($4.75M / year; same as now)
Kovalev - 2 years, $12M ($6M / year)
Higgins - 3 years, $10.5M ($3.5M / year)
Plekanec - 4 years, $19M ($4.75M / year)
Komisarek - 4 years, $20M ($5M / year)
Tanguay - 3 years, $16.5M ($5.5M / year)
Chipchura - 1 year, $750K (1 way)
Latendresse - 2 years, $3M
Bouillon, Dandenault, Begin, Kostopolous allowed to walk.

In the mid-season he looked like a vet of 50 years old.

He was ok, his linemates weren't great. Higgins was in a slump and rookie S. Kostytsin was looking lost at times. Replacing him back with Ryder didn't do much either.

I agree with your predictions. Although I think Kovalev will get less money than 6mil. ~5.5
