I don't know if anybody caught it (it was during the telethon around 3pm).
Unfortunately, I don't have a link to the interview, but here was the gist of it:
Francesa began by asking him about Vogue, and Avery said all he did was basically get coffee, make copies and help them out to get ready fashion week.
Then he started making fun of the Yankees, notably Jeter, saying that the suits the Yankees wear are terrible and that suit Jeter wears in his commercials is "bad fitting" and they could all use his advice.
Then he took shots at Bettman, calling him paranoid, and that the NHL didn't market him well because it was obvious how much attention he got.
He also said he brought a lot of the negative attention "onto myself" but that the NHL has the worst marketing team in sports.
On free agency, he made it sound like it was more about respect than money and that "the team's record speaks for itself". He also said that he really gets along with Colin Campbell and that the whole "Avery Rule" was blown out of porportion. he said he was trying to avoid getting a penalty by going in the crease with his back turned, so he turned the other way to annoy him.
Then Francesa tried to stir up the pot by insinuating the Rangers players thought he was a distraction and Avery owned him, telling him it was never proven. He also said he will miss NY but that Dallas is a very good team and he likes the city.
Then Francesa compared him to Rodman and that was about it.
I enjoyed the interview, Francesa admitted he knows nothing about hockey, and I wish Avery the best of luck because he really was a fan favorite. Honestly, I would rather have Avery for 4/16 than rosie for 4/20 or Naslund for 8/2
It's going to suck not having Avery on the team this year. I still wouldn't have given him that contract. I'm glad he didn't insult the Rangers this time. He kind of reminds me of a girl who breaks up with a guy then starts saying this about him behind his back, true or not.
Considering his appetite for the fashion industry, it's safe to say Avery will always be a part of NYC. I am guessing 19-35-54 for Avery this season over about 70 games
I'd still rather have him than Roszival. I never liked Roszival. I don't care if he finishes in the top-10 every year in d-man scoring. he's soft in the corners, soft on the power play, terrible at reading odd-man rushes and most importantly is slow and terrible at breakout passes.
If overpaying Avery, the most beloved Ranger forward since Adam Graves meant Roszival's weak act hit the highway, i would have been one happy camper.
But I can't get too greedy. Almost all the weak links i wanted gone are history, so now i can look forward to yelling at Rosie every game just like the last 3 seasons
