Actually,

Neil Smith did an interview with the HomeIce on XM about a year ago where he said the jersey was his design. He said back then there was not a lot of thought to 3rd jerseys, so he whipped it together. My guess is that it was totally a rip of Richter's helmet, at the time, one of the most recognizable non jersey items that the Rangers had.

CRAZY! It's my fav too, might have something to do with my age at the time and the fact that Nicky Fotiu is my favorite Ranger of all time.

Oh who the **** cares? That's why it's an "alternative" jersey in the first place.. the regular jerseys, which they use like 99.9% of the time, represent the history of the club just fine. God forbid they have a 3rd jersey that doesn't.

I'm not against a 3rd sweater if it has some historical ties to the team, like what Montreal and Toronto have done with 3rd sweaters, paying homage to past teams.

Finally, some others who actually like these, I thought I was the only one.

There's obviously no reason to have a 3rd jersey, but if we were to have one, it should be the 70s design, not the liberty design (which I hate, especially the blue).

So in 10 or so years, will it be alright for everyone if the Rangers got the Liberty Jersey again as a third? It'd be paying homage to the past? I don't know if it's considered to early for it to be homage to the past now?!

Personally, I could careless, but it is nice to have variety in anything.

Didn't the nhl say they were getting rid of the 3rd jersey's after the lockout. I guess whatever works on the suckers out there to keep buying different jerseys every year.

RBK said that there would be a 3rd jersey hiatus for 1 year so people could buy the new awful rbk jersey. The following year, which is this year, back to 3rd jerseys for many teams.

I just found an authentic Liberty jersey (Jagr) at Sports Authority on Metropolitan Ave. on clearance for $40. I bought it just for the hell of it.

Everything is stitched on, really nice quality -- looks like an authentic to me. Didn't even have a Sports Authority tag on it. The tags were legit, there was one tag that had a price of $170 written on it lol. My guess is that it was bought somewhere else and somehow found its way there. Sports Authority doesn't usually carry hockey jerseys with names on it. I was surprised so I went just ahead and bought it. Either way, it's a pretty nice deal, in my opinion.

It's a replica jersey. Sports Authority does carry Rangers replica jersey with name and number on the back. Either way you got a good deal on a ccm jersey so wear it proudly. Even it is the liberty hack jersey.

OK...well I'm in the minority who likes the libirity and overall 3rd jersey concept.
Nobody though has mentioned WHY the Rangers aren't having one and if they eventually will come back with the old or a new 3rd design.

I too would like an explanation as to why there's no 3rd jersey.

The first jersey I ever owned was a blue 'New York' with Leetch on the back. I was about 5 or 6 years old and I think it's the best jersey I've ever owned. I'd love that to be their 3rd.

well said.

if they come out with a 3rd jersey, it needs to be a retro/throwback jersey used years ago.
