Schneider Was Almost A Sen
9/15/2008 Posted by Cjohnson202
According to a very credible source out of Ottawa, Anaheim was on the verge of trading Schneider to Ottawa in exchange for Chris Neil. The deal was in it's final stages when Bryan Murray backed out of the deal, which Brian Burke is apparently not happy about. Burke is hoping to be able to clear cap room ASAP so he can sign UFA Teeme Selanne. It is not yet known why Murray backed out of the deal.
There is no way Ottawa trades Neil, let alone for a rental in Schneider. Ottawa cannot afford to lose a guy like Neil.

I would easily offer up Ottawa's 2009 2nd round pick, or C. Schubert, or Chris Pronger's best friend Dean McAmmond to get Schneider.

It's funny you called him out while you haven't called out the other 1000 people who think your proposals suck.

That proposal doesn't suck.

Ottawa gets a replacement for the offense on the blueline they lost this summer, and a playoff bound Anaheim gets another warrior (and, yeah, I know Anaheim is big and physical up front - but Neil is a guy who could help most teams).

Maybe something gets added on either side, but it is not nearly as bad a proposal as some of you are making it out to be.

Anaheim is going to be a "motivated" seller here. So, I think they add to equalize the loss in payroll room.

EDIT: LOL. Well, I guess Anaheim is even more "motivated" than I thought.....

This one is the latter of the two problems. Anaheim does not need grit and Ottawa does not need another defensman, at the cost of 5 mil...

Please stop failing so hard.

Did the Sens **** your family?

All 23 of your posts are hating on them somehow.

And Neil is very good at what he does, you're off to a really bad start here.

Just because his contract is expiring doesn't mean he is a rental player. Do you think when Phillips contract expires he would be considered a rental?

I'm not even sure what you are refering to here since I never used the term "rental." I simply said that Neil is an impending UFA, and he is. The above poster said Neil would definitely be a part of Ottawa's future core, and there is simply no way of knowing that.

I once had similar discussions about with Ottawa fans about Chara. Several SENS fans assured me that Chara would resign because he loves in Ottawa, wants to play in a small town, etc. The point is that you can't count on your contract chickens before they hatch.

Chara would resign. He came back during the off-season after a year in Ottawa. He just wasn't even offered a contract.

So the hitch in Darth's hatch was that the Sens were the contract chickens?

Neil is part of the core of the Sens

Not talent wise, but heart wise

He said in his opinion, as in he thinks he will be a part of their core to come.

And you know that for a fact exactly how....?

And, btw, your original comments about Phillips and Neil not being rentals still don't make any sense and are virtually irrelevant to the thread.

This hypersensitivty and defensiveness among some posters gets old.

The above poster said "Neil will be part of the Sens longterm core, IMO" to which I responded "Neil is an impending UFA."

I'm not sure why all of you want to read so much into such an innocent exchange...but whatever.
