Can you put Richards face on the king? And throw in some orange? And replace the sword with a stick?

Well done, Jules.

I say we should have a collector's series of Cap'n Crunch.

We could have:
  • Dave Brown as Cap'n Punch.
  • Roman Cechmanek as Cap'n Hunch.
  • Mike York as Cap'n Lunch.
  • Derian Hatcher as Cap'n Munch.

I did the same thing. The second he was drafted he became a future Flyers captain, so the C on his jersey has always been fitting.

Someone always has to take a **** on a good time.

I understand the concern, but writing an article about it? Dude, you sound like a baby.

But I think the strongest case is allowing Richards to grow into the role underneath a guy like Timonen, who often offered brutally frank answers during last year's uneven ride to the Eastern Conference Finals. He was the sense-making locker-room orator, drawing on the lessons of his past to offer perspective and hope for the Flyers' immediate future. Don't take the playoffs for granted, he often preached. Because you never know when you will get this chance again.
Ok...we get it...Timonen is old...but what lessons does he have to offer that Richards doesn't? Before last year, Timonen never made it out of the first round either. As far as I can tell, Richards has much more experience winning championships and gold medals. He knows what it takes.

Richards is a fantastic choice for captaincy, albeit not really unexpected.

Captain Cannon somehow sounds like a DC comic book hero to me. His nemeses would be the evil OvechKING and The Penguin.

I almost agree with sam though. The flyers are a very traditional club, usually picking captains that have put their time in the league. I thought they would of picked kimmo and let Richards take the captaincy from him when he retired. I'm not saying it's a bad decision though. I remember a mr clarke getting the C at his age too.

Mike was probably pretty surprised by this. He was talking to a buddy of mine this summer about Toews being named captain at such a young age and thought it was a horrible move to have a really young captain because the older guys would tell the kid to shut the hell up if he tried to tell them what to do and it could breed resentment. Its hard to be captain when the entire team sees you as a kid yet to pay your dues.

He's a pretty mature guy for 23 though and one hell of a hockey player. I'm sure he'll take it and run with it.

Richards is pretty respected in that room and around the league. I can see the argument for Toews and I made the same for Crosby (still do, nobody respects him), but Richards is poised beyond his years and everybody saw this coming. There aren't many people bashing this move.

Richards 23rd best player in NHL; Briere listed at 25th.

Quote:
http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story/10984595

23. Mike Richards, C: The Flyers locked Richards up for the next dozen years and made him their captain this summer. He's a solid two-way player and a leader in the mold of Bobby Clarke.

24. Scott Niedermayer, D: His star may have faded a bit because he took so long to come back to play, but Niedermayer still has the skills that have made him one of the best of his era.

25. Daniel Briere, C: It took him a while to get comfortable in his new Philadelphia environment, but once he got on track, Briere proved why the Flyers spent so much money on him.

I'm ordering a fancy Richards jersey, not sure which of home or away yet, for my christmas present to myself. But here's my question...I'm 6' and 200lbs; what size should I get?
