LoL I never even noticed until you edited it. That's a pretty funny statement.

i don't doubt for one second that shanahan would be a BIG upgrade over lats, production wise, this coming season. On top of that, Shannahan, even old and breaking down, still plays a much grittier/physical game than lats does, and we NEED a little more of that kind of play in our top 9.

While I wouldn't trade Lats for Shanny, given their respective ages, i believe that adding shannahan, especially for what he would add in the "intangibles" and "playoffs" department, would serve us well for this season.

For the first time in ages we have three good offensive centers to complement our deep wingers pool. Lats will benefit from this situation, and finally he'll have the chance to flourish on a permanent offensive line.

If we're talking about a Gaborik it would be different, but Shanny is not enough of an upgrade over Latendresse to put him on a fourth line and stagnated his development.
I disagree, i think shannahan is a big upgrade over Lats, and frankly, I don't think a potentially cup contending team can worry too much about "stagnating the development" of a young player... ask the Red Wings about Jimmy Howard...

If lats wants a top 6 spot, than he needs to earn it, and I'd rather see him come into camp/season having to TAKE it away from a guy like Shannahan, than just giving it to him and hoping he pulls through.

I belive that Lats has a very good futur and with injuries and rolling 4 lines there should be room for both. t

Your post is filled with stuff from the past and half truths.

First of all, a big part of the reason Shanahan had a "terrible, injury plagued season" is that he's 39 or 40 and his body is beat up.

Second, you are comparing the numbers of a player who played 1st or 2nd line minutes and regular PP time to a player that played about 6 minutes less a game on a 3rd or 4th line for the most part and only sporadic PP time. That's apples to oranges.

Third, Lats plays A LOT more physical than the 07-08 version of Shanahan. Yeah he was gritty and physical in his prime, but that was 5-10 years ago. He was not even one of the most physical players on his team last year and they had a lot of one dimensional skill guys. Lats was the Habs most physical forward ahead of guys like Lapierre, Kosto and Higgins.

Fourth, how did Shanny EARN anything on the Habs? He's coming from outside and shafted the Habs in prior off seasons when he could have signed here. Lats has played 3rd or 4th line for 2 years and been productive even with limited ice time, it would be a huge lack of respect to sign Shanahan and give him Lats spot.

Heh, don't forget the fact Shanahan has even said it's New York or bust.
