What are the chance, in your opinion, Selanne will be in uniform for Anaheim at the opening game?
I don't think it's likely unless Burke can shed salary. I think he's going to have to start looking to package Schneider with a pick (similar to the McCabe deal).
Of course it's always possible that Selanne would be willing to play for peanuts, in which case they could just dump a guy like Marchant.
I love seeing Burke scramble! He has to be going insane!
What would be great is if Schneider decided to retire and stick Burke with that fat salary...

I would love to see Marchant in a Stars uniform....
I think the only thing 100% is whether he'll attend training camp (per your link); while it's probable he'll be in a Ducks uniform come the opening day game (which is what the thread question is) it's not 100% until Burke makes cap room.

Why are people worried about not making cap room? still have a few weeks to go.
If this problem still going on a few days before drop of the puck then people can start laughing at Burke having to scramble to make cap room. He's probably just being patient and seeing what offers he could get, he's really got lots of time.
If Burke was such a genius, he wouldn't have found himself in this situation to begin with.
Not really. The ducks had just won the cup and selanne and nieds earned the right to decide whether or not to play again or not. Burke had to make moves in case they didn't come back. Burke is 100% blameless for that and should be applauded for putting his players first and showing them the utmost respect.

That was last season's argument, how long are we going to keep making excuses for what were essentially bad moves or errors in judgement?

I've asked many people to suggest an alternative, and few people have offered one up. Realistically Burke did the best he could in a very ****** situation.
I also don't forsee any waiting for Schneider to get dealt, as Schneider's sitting home right now. I think something's imminent.

Huh, it's the same thing. Schneider was brought in as nieds replacement in case he couldn't come back. The only reason he needs to get rid of him now is due to the getzlaf and perry extensions. If nieds never came back then schneider would still be on the team.

I have a pretty good alternative - not signing Schneider to a ridiculous overpayment for two years as a "replacement" for Neidermayer (which is a joke in and of itself). The fact that 29 other GMs passed on the chance to pick up that contract should tell you what the general concensus of that deal is around the league.

He knew all summer long that he would have to get rid of Schneider, and was too stubborn to move him without adding an incentive (like a draft pick). Now, a week before training camp, he finally realizes he's boned and has to do it just to get rid of Schneider and get Selanne, and somewhere along the way from point A to point B there was a "genius move" made?

Schneider was worth every penny last season. Also, if Burke passes on signing him, what happens if Niedermayer retires? Well, considering Pronger and Beauch had down years, Anaheim probably doesn't even make the playoffs as opposed to having the 4th best record in the league. That's why there was no realistic alternative. He signed Schneider to a contract mirroring the length of Niedermayers so he could somewhat replace him if Niedermayer retired, and Schneider knew full well he could be dealt at any time if Niedermayer returned.

Well now you're just lying. I mean, come on, who are you trying to fool? If he was really worth every penny of his contract, how come no team picked him up for free two days ago? I find it hard to believe he flew that far under the radar.
And I also find it really hard to believe Mathieu Schneider was the difference between the 4th best record in the league and missing the playoffs altogether.
Anyway I've seen Ducks (and Wings) fans express their disdain for Schneider before, namely in the thread about him being waived, so I don't know if you're offering up this glowing assessment of his play as a way to defend Burke, but I really think you're stretching it here.
