Ex-Ranger Barnaby to replace Melrose at ESPN

Quote:
Over on Going Five Hole, Leahy points to a report by Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News that confirms former Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers and Dallas Stars enforcer Matthew Barnaby as the replacement for Barry Melrose as ESPN's hockey analyst. Pergament writes that the details are being ironed out, and an announcement is imminent.

A personality like Matty's can only raise the level of what's being done at ESPN.

Now that IndyCar coverage has been lost to Versus, looks like I've watched my final broadcast on good old ESPN. Hard to image that a channel I used to live by has been cut out of my life completely.

Maybe because Melrose has been busy being the coach of the Lightning?

I'm talking within the last year. I really don't even recall seeing any kind of coverage of hockey .......did Melrose have his own short show or what? When was he on covering hockey? When will Barnaby be on? They don't show it on Sportsdesk or any other show. If they have been covering it maybe they should let some people know

The only thing I recall is his 2 or 3 minute segments on ESPN NEWS.

They did have Melrose on Sportscenter, certain days of the week. I think it was Wednesday and Thursday. Anyway if you have NHL network you don't have to care about ESPN not showing hockey.

Well I guess I have to worry. I call Verizon on a regular basis asking for NHL Network. I am going to order my center ice early bird today though. HNIC will do the trick again this year.

Ughhhhh guys I need some help. I just called Verizon and not only do they not have NHL Network but now they are telling me they don't have NHL center ice. Also no MSG in HD. Now WTF am I supposed to do? Why do Hockey fans always get the shaft?

I can't recall Barnaby speaking much, so it's tough for me to comment. But hockey doesn't matter on ESPN. Heck, VS has the rights to hockey and the analysts over there pretty much suck too.

Melrose was on thursday nights. Barnaby might be a bit more lively with the hockey news, but like everyones already said, it's ESPN, so not much will be expected or watched.

Don't recall him speaking much? Guy ran his mouth almost as much as Avery

I love Barnaby. He's one of my favorite players. Glad to see him back in the game, even if it is ESPN.

C'mon guys I need some info please i'm not happy. Last year I didn't order the center ice cause I lacked the funds, this year I have the funds and can't order cause Verizon doesn't carry it. Is there anyway I can get it through a 3rd party or something? I'm really not happy. I just learned I have to pay extra for VS which also sucks. Also not happy with no MSG in HD. Guys any info is great cause I really want to get atleast center ice.

A lot of people have stopped watching ESPN...and it is no longer upset hockey fans.

I no longer go to ESPN for NFL or MLB news...because they are all style.
They do not offer any good insight or news...just pure hype...it's all one big, obnoxious commercial.

Given the wider availablility of the NHL Network...you have to ask...would you even want a network like ESPN covering the NHL?
My answer...no...because even when they do cover a sport...it's still insufferable.
