Is this the year Gainey pulls a Nieuwendyk/Iginla trade?

Will Gainey do this kind of trade this year?
I/we are already huuuuge fans of Pacioretty and McDonagh (I really want to see them in a HABS' jersey).
Or will Gainey trade (a) roster player(s) (Lats? + __?__ ) combined with a high draft pick for a strong playoffs' type player? Or will we stay put with our 3 centers? (Pleks, Koivu, Lang).

This sure will be an exciting year .

I can't wait until October 10 VS the Sabres (same team as last season).

Go HABS Go!!

Chipchura will break Gretzky's point record, Higgins will put Mike Bossy to shame in goal-scoring and Sergei will bust. Leaving Erika baffled.

If he pulls a trade I hope it's for a younger guy then Nieuwendyk. I'm not to keen on those trades.

Well, I beg to differ .

BACK THEN, from what I know Iginla's value was high but no one was sure he'd be what he is today (I could be wrong!). So, maybe back then PAccioretty's value (today) is not that far off what Iginla's value was like BACK THEN (I can feel the "bashing gang" arriving!!).

We have many very good prospects (Maxwell, Subban, Weber, Emelin, Valentenko) and "star" prospects like Pacci and McDona. And, you could always combine two prospects to add to the value of the trade.

Pacioretty's value is VERY HIGH in my opinion (Okposo's territory or very close, imo).
McDonagh's value is VERY HIGH in my opinion (not miles away, for example, Luke Schenn's value).

Anyways, I'm just wondering if Gainey is thinking about this for (before) the March trade deadline...

Or, Gainey might trade an upcoming UFA player? I don't see that happening (Tanguay, Koivu, Komisarek, Kovalev). I hope (at least) 3 of those 4 will be signed to 2-3+ year contracts.

I'd trade anybody if it meant we'd be the #1 contender to win the cup.

Trades arent restricted to 1 for 1 trades...

And with the new reality of UFAs value is much different then it was back then.

Forgot about that one!

Yup, there's definitely that FREE (no cost, no trade) option.
It's definitely my favourite .

Sundin could always lace up the skates in January (prediction: he'll start working out/skating/practicing in December when he starts missing what he does best).
Sundin will then make up his mind...

IF Sundin does come here...Lang as 4th center?

I'm pretty sure Gainey will make a big splash somewhere between Christmas and the trade deadline. But other than that, I think that our team is pretty much set.

Unless the target is huge, I don't think that Pacioretty or McDonagh will leave. I could definitely see a package around Chris Higgins. Every prospects could be avalaible IMO (other than Max and McDo).

Pacioretty is here to stay... he's as untouchable as Price, Komisarek, Markov and cie. I mean, he was projected to be a more physical Higgins, and he's evolving even faster than Higgins did. He's bound to be the power forward we've been dreaming about for ages.

If anything, it's a 4th D we need, not another forward...

Unless you can get some superstar for Koivu++

No No and No. If Price shines in the playoffs this year then selling everything (not that we have an Iginla by any stretch). Your poll has no just plain "NO". Everything has a caveat.

With the salary cap, it's a lot more dangerous to make deals like that. Quality talent like McDonagh and Pacioretty can be bargains during their three year entry level contracts. It makes them extremely valuable assets.

Iginla wasn't supposed to be Iginla when he was traded.

And Nieuwendyk was only 29 at the time, not that old.

Last year our first game was against the Canes.

06-07 we opened against the Sabres... Blew a 2 goal lead with 10 minutes left... lost in the shootout.

Iginla wasn't Iginla when he was traded...he was a Pacioretty, Fischer or McDonagh.

I think we could see that type of trade this year for a d-man, somewhat like Detroit did for Stuart last year. Preferably a 2nd rounder plus a mid range prospect rather than a guy a year or 2 from being a regular.

Pacioretty is a good prospect, but if he is what's needed to add a Hossa calibre player(probably a d-man in the Habs situation) and they are a true contender, I'd do it.

You don't trade your captain if you are a cup contender.

Erika is the resident female (alleged) Sergei Kostitsyn lover and Higgins/chipchura basher. It's quite comical. Get on with the program son.
