I've frequently heard that Oleg Tverdovsky is the worst player to win two Stanley Cups. I thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion because it's harder to be part of a great team if you're a bad player, and because people's opinions of you change if you keep finding yourself on winning teams.
So, I ask you - is there anyone worse than Tverdovsky to win two cups? I am sure there is. He may be the worst to win two cups on two teams, though.
Taking it further, who is the worst player to win 3 cups? what about 4? what about 5?
I understand the players we name who have won 3-5 cups won't really be bad players - it would be like asking who's the worst 500-goal scorer. And the list of players gets smaller and smaller as you increase the number of cups you're talking about. But it would still be interesting to see some answers.
If anyone wants to venture a guess as to the worst player to win even one cup, be my guest. Chris Dingman has been mentioned before, but there are countless players who would qualify.
Thanks pnep. Not surprised to see the recently deceased Nick Metz up there for players with 5 cups. He was a decent enough player but it's incredible how many cups he got his name on when playing just 148 NHL games. He was possibly the biggest reason the Leafs came back in 1942, though.
Wow, I forgot Dingman had a second cup... lucky guy.
Also, Ted Harris was fairly marginal, as far as players with 5 cups go. Did he just miss the list? How close was Tverdovsky to making the list of players with 2 cups?
I'm also assuming that you're including only post-1918 cups in this calculation and only counting NHL players... is that correct? Otherwise guys like Graham Drinkwater, Billy Gilmour, and Jack McDonald would have to be here.

Just wanted to mention to the rest of my HOH bretheren: I'm not saying Drinkwater, McDonald, and Gilmour are bad - I respect them, their places in the hall, and their contributions to hockey... my ATD9 team had two of those guys! I'm just aware that pnep's HHOF monitor points only take NHL accomplishments into account and it's worth noting in case anyone else is wondering.

Actually, I believe it was Don Metz. He came in to replace Drillon and scored 7 points in 4 games.
pnep explained once that he got them on the internet. Also, I've noticed that a lot of them are present on sihrhockey.org in their massive hockey database.
Do those monitor points only include NHL? I reckon that Pouzar and Hrdina were multiple times participating World Championships for Czechoslovakia, and both also participated Canada Cup once. Were not able to leave home until their 30s.
