From Ranger Rants:

Quote:

Just got to The Rock in Newark. The Rangers will be on the ice for their morning skate in about a half hour.

Here's the preliminary roster for tonight:
G: Henrik Lundqvist, Matt Zaba, Antoine Lafleur
D: Michal Rozsival, Marc Staal, Thomas Pock, Paul Mara, Vladimir Denisov, Brian Fahey
F: Nigel Dawes, Patrick Rissmiller, Brandon Dubinsky, Chris Drury, Ryan Callahan, Petr Prucha, Aaron Voros, Greg Moore, Dan Fritsche, Brodie Dupont, Dale Weise, Petr Nedved

If I'm counting correctly, that's 21. I'm assuming coach Tom Renney will dress just two of the three goalies listed.

Leblond and Voros are going to go, Voros isn't the best fighter but isn't scared.

I fully expect some fireworks with no talent thugs like Spiller and Leblond in the Devils line-up.

Judging by your lineup you guys are in rough shape. We have 4 guys who can handle themselves in a fight tonight with Salvador, Spiller, Leblond and Clarkson. New Jersey is going to take runs at your softer team all night.

When have you seen a hockey team play 4 games in 4 nights and 5 games in 6? This schedule is ridiculous. Does anyone else have anything close to this? How do you have the team who is going to Prague play 5 games in 6 nights right before the trip? Its inexplicable.

The only good news is we have two squads splitting the games, kinda ridiculous the same team that played in NY flew to TB though. I dunno hopefully this doesn't lead to a loss of legs at the tail end of the season.

Maybe Dupont will go with somebody tonight. He might try to make an impression for a chance at being called up later.

Not saying they will scare you but they will certainly take runs at your stars with noone on the Rangers capable of defending themselves. Clarkson did beat up on Sean Avery last year.

Dubinsky, Callahan, Voros and Dupont all will fight. They aren't fighters, but they will fight. Dale Weise will fight too and I wouldn't be surprised to see it, since he's obviously trying to impress. We'll be fine.

I could see a Clarkson vs. Callahan fight. Voros and Leblond definitely.

I'm sure between one of these preseason games we'll have one with 3+ fights.

I didn't really realize it, but counting preseason, Dubinsky threw down nine times last year (7 regular season, 2 preseason).

How many fights has Callahan had in the NHL, one, maybe two? Will he stick up for his teammates and get involved (or even start) in a scrum. Yes. But he is no fighter. Do you really want him getting involved with Spiller or Clarkson?

I didn't really realize it, but counting preseason, Dubinsky threw down nine times last year (7 regular season, 2 preseason).
Like the idea of trying the Voros - Dubinsky - Cally line. Voros could spread out the middle of the ice for Cally and Dubi to walk into, all three who go to the net.

To me that means Fritsche had a chance that he kinda blew last game playing with Dubinsky. Right now its pretty apparent no one on the bottom two lines will make the starting squad, with the exception of Fritsche. Hes gotta show me a lot more tonight though, because if he doesnt I have Sjostrom penciled in above him on the cut list, after a showing a great speed game last night.

As far as the D goes, looking for Rozy to get it together a little more. Denisov, meh. I know some of us here like Fahey, im not impressed. He seems to get twisted around a lot and lost in tight areas. If hes the 7th guy i want to see some hitting as well, he has almost no physical aspect to his game. Pock, i dont know. Hes been alright, quiet. It might be his job when its all said and done. Its definitely between him and Potter in my eyes.

Gonna be intresting with Madden & Holik down the middle now. If Jagr was still here he wouldn't get a momkents rest between them & White, The Rangers should be able to counter that with a well balanced attack, This will also be a telling game for Nedved.........if he dresses.
