February 26, 1997 -- The Legion of Doom battered Ottawa with 16 points (tied a Flyers' team record for points by one line) in Philadelphia's 8-5 victory at Ottawa. Eric Lindros (1-6-7), Mikael Renberg (2-3-5) and John LeClair (3-1-4) combined for six goals and 10 assists and Lindros' six assists set a franchise mark. Each team tallied four first period goals and Ottawa scored the third of three straight in the second period to take a 5-4 lead. Rod Brind'Amour scored in the final minute of the second period, on the PP, to give Philly a 6-5 lead.
When I was living in Ontario, Ottawa was the city I went to most often for live Flyers hockey. This game should be memorable because of the huge amount of goals or the complete domination from the Legion of Doom..... but, no, what I remember most from this game was a first period goal scored by Alexandre Daigle, banking it off a linesman from centre ice as Garth Snow started to go behind the net
Sad, really, that I have almost no recollection of anything else that happened in that game.
I deride your truth handling abilities
Flyers forward Simon Gagne is targeting Saturday, September 27 as the date in which he will return to game action when Philadelphia hosts the Carolina Hurricanes at the Wachovia Spectrum at 1:00 p.m. Gagne is with the team this week for its preseason games in Ottawa tonight and London, Ontario tomorrow, but is not scheduled to play.
He spoke with the local media following a skate at Scotiabank Place on Wednesday.
"I would love to play tonight, but I feel I need a little bit more time to practice and get the feeling a little bit," he said.
"It's been awhile [since] I played a game or practiced, and the last time was seven months ago. Having just a couple practices might be a little too early. That's why I'll have an extra five days of practice and by Saturday I think I will be good to go."
I have CI, but I don't see this game listed. Right now, there's only one "channel" that says it's CI, and it doesn't have anything listed yet. I'm also getting NHL Network with my CI subscription. Could it possibly be on there? Again, since it's part of my subscription, NHL Network doesn't list what's actually on, it just says "NHL Network/NHL Center Ice".
